Newest landing challenge Paris - anyone else getting lowest fps?

Gotta hand it to Asobo, they outdid themselves! Didn’t think my framerate could get lower than over Manhattan  Upon reaching the runway for this challenge it drops to 10fps! Like playing atari. I have:

Intel i9 10th Gen 10900 processor
32gb of DDR4 3200mhz ram
Two 1TB Samsung Evo 970 Plus NVMe drives
MSI Z490 motherboard
MSI Ventus 2070 gpu
Resolution is 5120x1440 (yes its high but 1 million pixels less that 4K)

All is configured properly in the bios (timings etc). I work IT for the past 21 or so years. I know this is reported among many, and I know there will be the fan boys claiming they’re getting 30fps with a 1080i and i7  but they seriously need to optimize their code!

Charles de Gaulle murders my system, too, which is unilaterally adjusted to medium. I’ve switched off all ground traffic and other clutter; yet, it still brings me to a near stop.

Granted, I’m running on Ultra, but 10fps? How is VR going to perform? I am running at a high resolution but it’s 1 million pixels under 4K so it should still be capable of more than 10fps. Being others have shown insignificant differences between RTX 2000 series cards vs RTX 3000 cards, and being the sim doesn’t utilize all processor cores, the problem must lie in their coding.

De Gaulle was the worst place to choose, it’s a stuttery mess at the beginning and as always the touchdown point is way too soon. Challenges shouldn’t break the rules of safe visual approaches. It
'd be a challenge if an obstacle is on the runway and no fuel left for a go-around. That’s why i always play a new challenge only once not twice or more.

I got pretty normal performance there, a solid a smooth 30 FPS on 1440P (high/ultra settings, 5800x RX5700XT).

About the sim not using all the cores; that’s just how games and sims in general work. It’s not a tile based renderer where it doesn’t matter that one tile is done faster than the others, all tasks need to be finished before a frame can be sent to the GPU.

a 10900K is a 10 core / 20 thread CPU, games and sims simply will never fully utilize that. If you’ve bought that CPU specifically for MSFS, then you overspent on something that will not be fully utilized. If you do productivity workloads (like rendering and video editing), you’ll find it much better suited for that.

The new landing challenge is a picture postcard.
But that’s all it is because I may as well be looking at a postcard.
It’s taking a slightly buggy but highly playable game to a bug-fested highly unplayable mess.
Graphics 9/10
Graphic frame rate 2/10 (including a full 1 second freeze that’s repeatable every time I try it).
Controllability 2/10
Playability 2/10
Come on Asobo. If it doesn’t work, leave it till the next release.

Oh so you’re getting those too! Yeah I forgot to mention the frequent freezes for a second or so. Ugh, really wish this would get worked on. There are games out there doing waaaay more visually and performing waaay better.

At least you have it. I just keep getting redirected to the content manger!

That’s odd, I went to the content manager after and there were no updates. Sometimes, like after the USA update you have to update some of the content packages, not this time.

Same here…click on the new challenge and get a message saying “One or more content items needed to be installed” - follow it to the content manager and no matter what selections I make, there isn’t anything available to download.

If you have the FBW A32NX in your community folder you’ll need to remove it. I had same issue. Once I moved the A32NX folder out of Community, restarted the Sim I was good to go. Of course, if you put A32NX back, you’ll have the initial issues.

Good point! I am not using any mods except the Saint Martin Princess Juliana Airport 3rd party add on. No plane mods however.

I have a “reasonable” system and run graphics at “high end” with no stutters and nice scenery. I agree this landing challenge brings my system to a screaming halt. Not doable at all. Sorry I’m not a techie so I have no idea about frame rates etc.

Should add my installation is completely out of the box. No mods, add ons, etc.

There is another thread where this has come up but I can’t find it. IIRC there is a scenery object at CDG that kills the GPU if it’s in the scene to be rendered. Part of a terminal building I think. I guess the approach to the runway requires this object to be rendered. I agree they could have chosen another airport but they like to show off a bit with these challenges

Same spech same problem! The Paris area has low fps.

Charles de Gaulle has had a historic problem with performance in MSFS, and brings most systems to their knees. So I was really surprised Asobo chose this airport for a new challenge. From comments in posts relating to this airport, and from my own testing, the issue appears to stem from the circular terminal building. Looks pretty but is a performance killer.

This challenge is unplayable for me because of FPS/ stutters. tried a few times now :frowning:

Yeah I couldn’t place higher than something like 925,000 points cause it’s too choppy, just too low a frame rate and some second or longer pauses as well. Decided to not bother trying additional attempts.

Or a birdstrike, engine fire, dead stick, out of fuel…that would be great for a sim. cough
