ISSUE DESCRIPTION
Description of the issue:
First of all, I would like to commend the team for finally removing the sepia mask during the night. I can finally do night flights without cringing. However, I do find that the night lighting is still too bright and too even and the orange lights in cities make it look like the city is on fire.
MEDIA
Here are some shots of Manila taken at FL200 (20,000ft).
At high altitude the lights look great, although realistically they wouldn’t be as bright as you see them; you would definitely see them in larger cities but slightly less bright. For smaller towns, they would still be visible but not that bright. Though I wouldn’t be mad if the smaller towns were still bright should the devs decide to reduce the lighting intensity.
Closer to the ground, as mentioned prior, the towns/suburbs look like they’re on fire. All city lights pretty much have the same intensity all around. You would expect to have brighter lights on highways and dimmer lights in the suburbs. It would be great if the lighting intensity was less even depending on which part of the city you are at. You would also find that in real life, houses and other buildings might block the light in some instances, hence why they should be dimmer when viewed at a distance.
FOR REFERENCE (MSFS2020)
Below are images of FS2020 city lighting. While they weren’t captured in Manila, generally the night lighting across all cities in 2020 look pretty much the same or follow the same logic. Lighting is a lot more tame is what I would expect to see in real life even as a passenger; suburbs aren’t visible at a distance and only come into view when you are somewhat close. You can find that there’s a lot more variety in the lighting colours; there are areas that are white, orange, etc. Highway lights are bright but are varying in intensity. Actually even the city lights vary in intensity.
I know that the beta is still in its early stages, but seeing that the sepia problem has been addressed, I feel optimistic to see more improvements with the lighting. But if they have this in MSFS2020, I’m sure they can find a way to bring it to 2024.
I will be looking forward to doing more night flights in the future
EDIT: For some people the lighting intensity in 2024 is perfectly fine and 2020 was a bit too dark. Though what I’d like to see most is the variety in the lighting intensity and colors as seen in the 2020 examples above. Looking at it now, yes I would agree that 2020 is a bit on the darker side. Intensity-wise maybe somewhere in between 2020 and 2024 lighting intensity would be nice.
