Night Vision Capability in MSFS 2024

Adding night vision functionality to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 would be an exciting feature for many players, especially those who enjoy military or specialized aviation scenarios. Here’s why it would be a valuable addition:

  1. Enhanced Realism for Night Operations
Night vision devices (NVDs) are critical in real-world aviation for low-light missions like search and rescue, surveillance, and tactical operations. Integrating NVDs into MSFS 2024 would allow players to experience the unique challenges and skills required for night flying.

  2. Improved Mission Variety
With night vision, the simulator could expand its offerings for military and emergency scenarios, letting players navigate terrain, locate ground targets, and perform precision maneuvers under challenging visibility conditions.

  3. Expanded Training Opportunities
Night vision would provide a more comprehensive toolset for virtual pilots, enhancing the training realism for those preparing for real-world operations or simply looking to master night-time aviation techniques.

  4. Immersive Environment
Coupled with the simulator’s advanced night lighting and atmospheric effects, night vision would create a more immersive experience, bringing night-time flying to a new level of authenticity.

Adding this feature would cater to a wider audience of aviation enthusiasts, from casual players to professionals, and would elevate the simulator’s versatility and appeal.

I was coming in here to create this wishlist item but it’s already here. Besides the military applications civilian search and rescue and helicopter EMS in many places are using night vision goggles. I would love to see a goggle implementation similar to DCS where your vision gets limited but you can still peek under the goggles to see your displays. It makes for very challenging flying. I would settle though for a simple “green” screen effect that would allow you to see better at night for search and rescue.

Yes I know there are NVIDIA filters for this but they don’t work in VR and the sim could use a native implementation especially since they are trying to make realistic career missions.

I’ve not seen a post for NVG’s for 2024. With the career mode, addition of many milsim aircraft like the C17 and F/A 18 | A10cii, AStar with SAR mode in career, it seems fitting that a NVG system gets created.

There are hundeds of examples of civ flights using NVG systesm. Even if it was a simple internal black frame over a maxed gamma with green reshade. It could be very simple and very effective. All it would need is a intensity control for the gamma so you can adjust based on area lighting.

I know many vSO’s, flight sim clubs, SAR \ HEMS groups, and many flying clubs would love this addition.
