To use this tool effectively the msfs sharpening must be disabled in UserCFG.opt.
When I tried the tool first the shimmering was so bad I could not stand it no matter what settings I used. Then I found someone’s suggestion to disable the msfs sharpening and it made a huge difference for me. Now the graphics are great, I was able to put clouds to Ultra and the cocpit in Cj4 still looks good.

Average GPU frame time seen via Open XR dev tool overlay is 19-24

I think you might have misunderstood me, I am totally in favour of MR, i can not fly without it myself, it is just that on the G2 you need to have constant >30fps without MR, if you want MR to be working.

As soon as you enable MR, the fps will get technically locked at around 22 fps (it will not increase, even when it is running better), the only way you can then “judge” the performance in game, is when you enable the “Frame Timing Overlay” in the experimental OPEN XR tool for the mixed reality stuff.
Then you can directly see when MJ is activated and working and when not.

Sorry if you already knew all that, just ignore it then. I hope i was able to explain it properly. I had myself the bad experience tweaking everything and wondering why on the one hand, the fps does not increase while I have MR activated and on the other hand, why it is not running good when i have more fps (>22fps) without MR. You have to get it running >30fps without MR, to have a satisfying experience with MR.

I’m pretty sure this is all wrong. Even with MR set to ‘Always on’ it will render up to 90fps if possible. You can see that by launching the demo scene from the OpenXR developer settings.

If 90fps isn’t possible it will render at 45fps and ‘reproject’ every other frame. Then 30fps when 2/3 of frames are reprojected.

When you see 22Hz in the frame timing overlay, it’s rendering every 4th frame and reprojecting the rest but it’s not ‘technically locked’ to that, and would definitely change if hardware/settings etc allow.

With my settings and hardware I typically get 30fps with MR on. Or 22 at airports or over photogrammetry areas, occasionally 45 at altitude when there’s less to render.

I do not dissagee with your switching to the next MR “level”, but you will not have working MR if you get only 22 fps (and some more) without MR.

This also means you will not “measure” the performance gain you get with different settings when you have MR always enabled unless you hit the next “level”.

I only have two points, and i am sure it is right:

  1. You have to be able to get more FPS without MR than with the MR enabled, just to have MR kick in. If you get 22fps without MR, do not expect MR to improve anything visually.

  2. Having MR always on will not show you the fps between the MR stages.

Getting approx 25fps depending on situation but it feels surprisingly smooth and looks good apart from some aliasing/shimmering since sim update 5
