Nis Scaling / good setups

Hi
since this Nis scaling tool from @mbucchia seems to be taking off (great work btw!!), it might be an idea to start posting configs/setup in this thread stating processor/GPU and NIS tool settings? I’ve tried many now, have lost track of what worked and what did not and I think it could help me and others out if we post our ‘best’ findings. Even with the same hardware it can still vary from rig to rig, but it would be nice to have some kind of ‘baseline’ to start from.

I’ve been reading about loads of different settings and have tried many of them as well but yet to find the one setting I really like - setting the NIS scalar to 80% gives me great smoothness, but I don’t like the scenery shimmer with the 30-40% sharpening I need to add (even with the MSFS sharpening set to 0) to get clear instruments. However this smoothness does also seem to help to reduce the “cockpit shaking” issue I have with Windows 11 in the Reverb G2. I’m on an RTX3090 and 10900k by the way.

Me, RTX 3080 , AMD 5600X
Reverb G2

100% render scale OpenXR
100% in game
100% NIS
40% Sharp
Sharpening disabled in UserCFG.opt

Very nice

If NIS is 100%, is it doing anything?

I assume not but I like the sharpening process better with this than the one from MSFS.

This works and look good on my 2080 Super as well.

have you tried the fbw a320 with that setting ? I cant imagine you can hold 30 fps with that , or am I wrong ?

I use the same. Settings in game options is probably not identic, so this is only half of the trouth.
My fps varies, but never drop to low. Even flying low over NY give fluid flight

Reverb G2

100%OXR
75% NIS
100% sim render scale
100% LOD, though I put it up to 200% away from big cities.
Most sim settings on high, a few of the non heavy hitters on ultra.
Motion reprojection always on.

Those settings generally give me a good balance of stutter free performance and great visuals. I do get shimmering and screen flickering. Not a lot seems to stop that though. I guess these are known frequently experienced issues.

I’m envious by those that get get smooth stutter free flying over NYC. Maybe thats down to those with higher core CPU’s. My 5600X sure can’t manage it. I’m locked down to 20 - 22FPS over Manhattan.

Yeah I wondered that. I thought the whole point of it working its magic is that its kept below the sim or headset render scale and upscales things. Maybe I’m not understanding it correctly though.

NIS 100% still means you use the sharpening pass (if sharpening > 0%), which might give you a crisper image.

Exactly this , the sharpening pass is really good compared to MSFS in my opinion.

nice, a fellow 2080 and indeed, ditto results

!

Do you use windows 11 or 10?

please include what driver nvidia using with this
thx

If you have motion reprojection always on ON, you fps will not go over 20/22 fps, turn it off to have an actual fps counter for measurement.

Windows 11 and latest Nvidia driver

Dont know if helps . I do not use motion reprojection and this tools maxes out my 3090 great graphics 82 nis and 45 sharpening. Limiting fps in the nvidia control panel to 33fps calms this down now at 80% smooth and a cooler graphics card down from 80 to 72c. Still testing though.

With MR off I sit at around 28 - 30FPS and its noticeably stuttery. I can lower settings right down and it’ll go up into the 30’s but the graphical fidelity of the sim just isn’t there. I know some people really don’t like MR and the visual artefacts it introduces but with it on I can dial sim settings right up and enjoy great graphics. For me its just a case of learning to live with the shimmering and occasional flickering.

Just to add. I get 28 - 30FPS over cities ike New York. Out in the countryside I can get well above 40FPS. Even at that though with MR off I still see a lot of micro stutters at low level. Like I say, personally I’m more of a fan of using MR on, having high graphical settings and learning to live with the shimmering.
