I just bought a new pc and downloaded MSFS2020 from my XBox library. On my old computer the MSFS file was as advertised but on the new computer there is nothing beyond C:\username . No AppData onward. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice without anything changing. I can open MSFS2020, have managed to link FlybyWire and PMDG aircraft but can’t add liveries to FBW because there isn’t a Communitry folder linked to the installation.
I am obviously doing something hideously wrong but no idea what. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Is the folder you are lookingfor:
C:\Users\user-name\AppData\
Good luck, sPK
Thanks for replying. Yes, that is what I am looking for but it isn’t there. I get as far as C:\Users\user-name and that is that. No "AppData". I tried installing in different drives but with the same result. My new PC is HP Omen with an RTX4090 graphics card and i9 etc. so should be more than fit for MSFS.
I know it is a different process but XPlane 12 downloaded without a problem.
IIRC the AppData folder is hidden by default.
If you don’t see a folder named “AppData” in File Explorer, try pasting "C:\Users\your-user-name\AppData" into the path bar in File Explorer and hit enter.
Thank you, Hester. My apologies for my error in posting and thank you for correcting it. I see the note about downloading problems so I will hold off trying to install MSFS2020 for a few days and hope the difficulties can be overcome. Do you know if those of us asking for help on this issue will receive an email when it is resolved? Or will I need to keep checking here?
Paul
Thank you for the suggestion; I much appreciate it. I had tried that, with no luck but I now read a header notice on this topic from “MSFS Team” that reports I am not alone in having difficulties. Apparently, there are a lot of us! The Team is working on it.
Again, thank you for your advice.
I have learned a lot more about installing MSFS2020 including not to let the sim choose it’s own location. I managed to safely install and operate MSFS2020 simply by creating my own folder. This is probably obvious to most users of these forums but it wasn’t for me.
Many thanks to all who offered help, I greatly appreciate it.
