No Headset Detected Valve Index

I’ve searched high and low but can’t find an answer on the Valve Index. Folks say “install Open XR” But apparently it’s not needed for the Index since it’s a Steam VR set. Others say “use the Beta setting under Tools Menu” but I can’t find a “Tools” menu anywhere in the Steam Ecosystem.

I’m at a loss. Anyone using an Index please chime in.

Thanks

I don’t have an Index, but “use Beta” means install SteamVR Beta version. You do this (this is from my memory so might not be 100% accurate!) by right clicking SteamVR in Steam Library, choosing properties, then Beta, then opt into Beta from the dropdown menu.

I opened Steam. Right clicked and found Steam VR, Library, I hit the settings widget, found BETAS, selected beta - SteamVR Beta Update, it updated, I re-launched, opened MSFS2020, General Options>VR Mode>Switch to VR… and got the same “No headset is detected!” error.
I tried Alt+Tab… same error.

Do I need to re-purchase MSFS Through Steam? Do I need to actually add MSFS to my Steam Library? I tried to “Add a Non-Steam Game” but in the 100 or so programs I’ve got loaded, MSFS was NOT listed, and I can’t even find the .exe on my computer.

UPDATE! I found the (not entirely obvious) “Set as Default” pop-up upon launching VR, and that seems to have fixed it!!

I can see my Garmins!!!

Thanks, all.
