Had clouds in Greenland after departure and after about an hour or so , not a single cloud in the sky anywhere in the USA east coast or northern Canada. Xbox series X
Had a gaming services update about 3 hours ago, and my weather and wind and such are all back to normal. Automatic at bootup and metar is back to normal, updating 16 minutes after the hour. I’ll log back on later and see if it still working. Before the update, it would take 10 minutes before the weather would kick in.
They released an update? When???
Can confirm the update. It is very small, as the update screen showed 0 GB / XXX GB. ( 0 GB of XXX GB available). But had just “flown” at a small Michigan airport where skies were clear and there was no snow and Metar was from 8 22:54z. Unfortunately, when I gave things a try after the update, the results were the same: clear skies, no snow, same Metar. This, despite the fact that on the screen where you select the location and flying conditions, it showed clouds in the “Live Weather” box, as it should have.
I then tried KDTW. Metar said 08 23:53z (closer to the correct time). The “Live Weather” box showed much more cloud cover and the Metar read “COR 15006KT 6SM HZ OVC140 03/M02”. Clouds appeared in the sim again and seemed to match the Metar!!
I am a Beta participant, if that matters here.
Worked for about an hour in midwest. Gone again..
With or without the update? Are you in the Beta?
I still have clouds at KDTW and the metar has updated.
Update: Just checked the small airport reported on earlier. It now has snow, clouds and an updated Metar!!
Ahh, I see. Thanks. I deleted my previous post. ![]()
I also checked KMCI. The Metar being used by MSFS is the latest according to the Aviation Digital Data Service (ADDS) and both read exactly the same. Here’s that Metar:
| METAR text: | KMCI 090212Z 04009KT 2 1/2SM -RA BR OVC006 02/01 A2986 RMK AO2 DZE05RAB05 P0000 I1000 T00170011 |
|---|---|
| Conditions at: | KMCI (KANSAS CITY/INTL, MO, US) observed 0212 UTC 09 February 2023 |
| Temperature: | 1.7°C (35°F) |
| Dewpoint: | 1.1°C (34°F) [RH = 96%] |
| Pressure (altimeter): | 29.86 inches Hg (1011.3 mb) |
| Winds: | from the NE (40 degrees) at 10 MPH (9 knots; 4.6 m/s) |
| Visibility: | 2.50 miles (4.02 km) |
| Ceiling: | 600 feet AGL |
| Clouds: | overcast cloud deck at 600 feet AGL |
| Weather: | -RA BR (light rain, mist) |
And here’s a screenshot:
Another about 5300 ft:
Cloud “deck” seems high compared to Metar, however.
No live weather in Jackson, MS area (USA) at 2:57z 2/9/2023 (should be very low weather with thunderstorms).
So after working yesterday for the first time in 5 days its not working again today…!!! Back to REX for the time being
Flying KDEN-KPSP live weather again loaded temp, wind and pressure but no clouds
Maybe I should go buy a lottery ticket tonight. Ah, but it’s more fun flying!
Here’s what I get at KJAN about 30 mins later. The current Metar at the Aviation Weather Center is:
Data at: 0333 UTC 09 Feb 2023
KJAN 090330Z 18009KT 1 3/4SM R16L/4500VP6000FT RA BR SCT029 BKN046 OVC075 19/18 A2998 RMK AO2 LTG DSNT ALQDS CB DSNT ALQDS P0006 T01940183
Here’s a screenshot:
Oh well, things have reverted back again. No snow where snow should be, clear skies, etc. It was fun while it lasted!
So what we’ve learned from all this is that Microsoft is having issues with their… cloud services? In all seriousness, it’s obvious Azure is still having issues somewhere. ATC voices are coming and going, which is a dead giveaway that Azure is borked. Kind of a shame all around. Hopefully a permanent fix is on the way.
Say hello to FSX/P3D for me! Had a wonderful cloudy departure with zero visibility until about FL280 and steady clouds all the way into Dallas.
