hi guys having problems getting vr to work basically just says no headset detected. I have the Microsoft store version and I’ve got steam vr opened b4 running fs2020 the drivers are all up to date I really don’t know what else to try any one know if there is something I’m not doing thanks.
Hi Graham, you haven’t said which headset you’ve got. Have you had it working at all? (not in MSFS)
Regards
Steve
Hi, Yeah I guess I should have put that information in my bad. I’m using the HTC Vive PRO the headset is working with steam ok however fs2020 just says that no headset can be detected.
You also didn’t say which program (Windows Mixed Reality Portal or MSFS) you are referring to. I had the same question with WMRP when first running VR . MRP never says your headset is connected. Just go ahead and run MSFS and it will work.
Of course, you need to press <CTRL/TAB> to enter VR mode when you’re in MSFS ‘Fly Now’ window.
Do I need windows mixed reality running as well I don’t have that installed, I’ve just had steam VR running then opening msfs202?
If you’re using an Oculus headset, you need to manually edit your registry and set your Oculus software to beta branch after you’ve installed OpenXR developer tools. This should make your Oculus headset work and detected correctly.

All steps are absolutely necessary to make Oculus VR run optimally.
Yes, the current Oculus implementation is hacky and should emphasize that it currently is a very much working beta.
i have message i cant edit ectiveruntime. it prevents me from saving the setting requested;
please advise as i have the same problem. My headset used to work (very badly) then i followed different steps including installing open XR. but since i have the problem my headset cant be detected while it working fine. Following all the steps in the tutorial this is the missing step for me to see if thats the problem.
You also have to make sure that is bound to something. Allegedly, it’s supposed to just be properly configured, but frequently it’s not. It wasn’t for me. I bound it to both CTRL-TAB and a button on my stick. You should also check the other VR bindings, too.
by now i was able to edit the regedit but still have the same issue. No headset connected
Its not an oculus headset its the HTC vive pro, when I’m in the game and press ctrl (that’s what I’ve set the key binding for) to switch into vr mode it just says no headset detected.
hi its the HTC vive that I’m using, when I try and switch to vr it is just saying no headset detect, is there any other steps or software that I have to have running for it to work? thanks
Try going into SteamVR Beta (Google it) and clicking “set as current OpenXR runtime” under developer options
Ayyy, CRAZYGRAHAM…! I have the OG Vive and I flew in VR the first go-round after clicking that button as expected, I fly VR in X-Plane with FlyTampa Las Vegas scenery (exactly the same as MSFS 2020 version which I also fly…) with settings maxed out and it’s surreal!! But to my dis-belief, after doing some research on this MSFS VR support release I was ready to go in an tweak out some setting…
NO HEADSET DETECTED…
Now this was not the end of the world, I am tech savay so I just did what you did, and…
So what’s the UPDATE on our lonely HTC MSFS 2020 VR GROUP…? I have not had any luck, I feel like I am nuts, and the only one out here going, “so WTF happened…!”
