I just made the switch from a Logitech X56 to a Honeycomb Alpha. While I love the Alpha, I miss some of the functionality I had with the X56’s 3 hat switches, and particularly the thumb stick that was mapped by default to free look. Going back to using a few fixed vews with a single hat switch was a huge step backwards.
So, I figured IRL, pilots attach tablets to their yokes for extra functionality that they wouldn’t otherwise have in their aircraft. And this got me thinking about what I could do to regain some of that functionality. And then it hit me.
So with the aid of some industrial strength adhesive Velcro, I came up with this solution. Now I have a non-damaging, non-permanent way of attaching my wireless XBox controller to the front of my yoke. It gives me a ton more buttons, if I need them, but more than anything, it allows me to use the analog stick to free look around my cockpit. And it translates the controller’s vibrations to the yoke as well, which is a cool extra touch.

Yes, but the hat doesn’tt have the same fine control that I get with an analog stick. This way, I have my fixed views (which I like having) as well as having fine control over free look.
And I have awesome drone camera control right on my yoke as well with this solution!

Great idea, thanks for the share
Hmmm, suspect they also want you to buy the throttle quadrant, lots of switch’s on there. Good luck finding one. Unless you pay the scalpers on eBay, it will be July or later before supply chain catches up with demand.
What I really wanted was the analog sticks to control free look in the cockpit and the drone camera. Other buttons now serve as ATC commands, easily accessible right on the controller in front of me.
I have a Logitech throttle on the way. I already have the Logitech multi panel (AP) and stich box, so the Bravo throttle would just be duiplicating a bunch of functionality I already have. I also have my Stream Deck XL which adds a ton more functionality (like controlling Garmins). I’m set for buttons now.
You can also get an additional gamepad (gaming keyboard) and convert it to a controller full of buttons.
That is a great idea, thank you for sharing, I am using a Logitech Rumble pad, so I will mount it like yours, do you care to share the bindings in your controller? Thank you
I don’t use most of the buttons (yet). The most used are the analog sticks. By default with the XBox, one will control free view of the cockpit. In drone view, they both control the drone.
Other buttons I’ve mapped to ATC commands for now. Basically that’s all for the time being, but I’m sure I’ll come up with more as time goes on.
Is your multipanel working with the alpha??? Mine is not working properly. And don’t want to pay for the fsuipc nor stad… how did you manage the altitude and heading bugs?
I have the Logi switch panel, so all the switches on the Alpha are redundant for me. I’ve unmapped them all and don’t use them for now. That’s a 100% fix for the clashing with the multi-panel dial.
That’s correct but I don’t have the multipanel nor want to buy it (wife is about to kill me)
I guess it’s either unmapped them or paying fsuipc…
Those are pretty much your choices unfortunately. It’s what I’d do if I didn’t have the switch panel.
Nice setup! Only thing I will say is the glue on industrial strength velcro tape can really mess up a surface. On the yoke it might strip away the rubberized texture or leave an unfixable glossy shine if removed - only ever matters if you ever intended to resell really. And that said, the Magic Eraser sponge works wonders!
I still just use the mouse holding down the right button to free look. Not as convenient but when I want to do drone look around I pretty much pre-plan it and have my Xbox controller on the ready to connect before launching MSFS. I have its profile set so that all the plane functions are unmapped so it won’t interfere with my flying and is only there for drone use

Good idea, I may have to do the same. I just received my Logitech Thottle Quadrant and should have my Honeycomb yoke on Tuesday, been using a wireless Xbox One controller since I bought MFS a couple weeks ago. I have been wondering what I’m going to use for rudder control once my yoke arrived but I know I won’t be buying pedals as I have foot/leg nerve damage. Maybe the XB1 controller will work for rudder.
I use Tobii Eye/Head Tracker so I don’t need something for view control.
New problem here! If I start cold & dark multipanel won’t work. If I load the plane on the runway it works … any suggestion?
Are you turning on Avionics Bus 1 and 2 first? AP panel shouldn’t work unless both are on. Now when you start on the runway, they’re on by default.

That is a great idea. I have a Yoko yoke, and the controller sitting on top of it. This will be a much nicer way to have it handy. When I don’t feel like anchoring my chair to use the brakes on my rudder pedals, I can access the brakes on the controller now easily.
Chapeau!

Hi, thought I would share mine attached after getting the idea from you. I really like using it this way.
Best,
