Not happy: pixelated graphics (bad TAA?), smaller LOD, fading enthusiasm

Can’t say the last update improved the graphics for me. GTX1080 on a 1080i screen, settings are all Ultra so TAA is enabled.

First thing I noticed is the circle of ‘autogen’ around me seems even smaller than it was already. I can very clearly see where the trees end. But this may be due to the…

…second thing I noticed is that those trees in the distance stick out a lot more because they are pixelated (making the LOD even more obvious): they don’t look like trees in the distance but like pixels in the distance. In the past the trees also would blend quite nicely with the ground textures but not anymore. Awful and immersion killing.

Third: when a city appeared in the distance it was a shimmering, moving pixel mess. In the past the buildings would be ‘steady’ whenever I saw them but now it looked like a lake of pixels where every pixel was fighting to get onscreen. Awful. Extremely immersion killing.

I also noticed a far more clear moiré effect on the water: didn’t look good at all.

So yet again they managed to make the graphics WORSE for me… MSFS is going downhill pretty hard instead of uphill. Such a shame. I have to say the for the very first time I feel like NOT playing MSFS for now because the graphics are getting too bad to enjoy. A screen full of very obvious and moving pixels isn’t what I like to look at…

EDIT
Example: obviously you can’t see the shimmering and moving pixels on a screenshots: that makes it all even worse. But as you can (hopefully) see all those little houses in the distance look like seperate pixels and you can also clearly see where the trees end. And those trees also clearly look like pixels thrown on the ground texture. In the past all these things would blend or fade into the scenery. It seems all AA is ‘smoothing’ is gone in the distance.

Checked render scale? Checked driver-side changes?

Give screenshots. Give examples. No one can help if you don’t provide any of those.

If you’re on Nvidia, also check the Geforce Experience app.
Sometimes it tries to “optimize” games on it’s own.

Render scale doesn’t change the pixelated look. I usually have it at the Ultra default 100 but did try 200 and apart from fps going down things looked just as bad.
Also already checked the nVidia settings: no changes there (like FXAA being turned on by itself as I’ve read somewhere).

I added a screenshot to my OP: I wonder if you (and everyone else) can see what I mean.

I always only install the driver, not GE.

What pixels are you talking about? It’s been always that way.

No, it hasn’t but as I said it’s harder to see on a static image. The difference is very obvious on my PC compared to previous versions.

I don’t know how to help you then because I can’t see issue you’re having, but good luck.

On your Nvidia control panel set like below (let the 3d app decide) and try, this will avoid Nnvidia setting override your MSFS setting which can cause issue, blur, flashing, fps drop etc…

Turn Bing data and Photogammetry back on. That is what happens when they are off.

Yes as well, he need to check on MSFS DATA, turn off and to on.

Agree with the last two posts, I noticed a big downgrade after I updated last night, but did a quick check through my settings and noticed that Bing Data had turned itself off, turned on again and i’m back the way things were

They were still on. Turned them off and on again: same result.

Will give this a try too!

It would help us when you give us pictures before and after and then we can find a solution maybe.

Also on Windows\ Setting\ Gaming \ Xbox networking\ click fix it and check again if no connection on server connectivity.

try it… it works!!!

You mentioned you have a 1080i screen, what kind of monitor/tv is this?

1080i is going to look shimmering and pixelated as opposed to 1080p as the frame is interlaced (i)
not progressive §

I am going to assume thats just a typo and you are using a 1080p monitor and resolution…

Especially since you added you cant see the problem in the screenshot, sounds like an actual monitor issue

I am delighted with the update. The new AA looks great to me. Maybe try changing some settings/nvidia configs.

For me the visuals are 100x better with no performance hit.

I agree that the visuals are way better but my anti-aliasing seems broken too. Tested every setting with no luck. Did you happen to update your driver to the most recent as well?

Edit: I reverted to the previous nvidia driver and the shimmering and jaggies are still there.
