As a beginner I am using the training part of MFS. For takeoff training I can be going down the runway at full thruttle with the brakes off and the program says I am not going fast enough. Sometimes I manage to take off and the speed says I am going 80 knots but the program cuts in and says I am not going fast enough. The program shows 55 for runway speed and 75 to lift off. Could there be a problem in that part of the program? I generelly skip that part and go to landing instead. Has any other novice run into that problem? PS I am using the Airbus Officer system.
Probably you can check if your flaps are extended 1 notch and the elevatortrim is set to neutral ( TO) or slightly nose-up.
If set correct the bird will almost rotate by itself.
Also check if both magnetos are on and that your throttle produces around 2500rpm.
Also important is that you don’t jank the joystick to the max ( especialy during your take-off rol) because that will result in a stall.
Disclaimer: I haven’t done the simulators training program so probably all is set automaticaly
The diagram actually shows 75kts departure to the cross-wind leg position.
Full throttle, and you’ll have to experiment since the attitude indicator isn’t really good at showing the pitch position if you’re using the standard POV from left hand seat. Basically you want the pitch to be between first and second pitch lines from the artificial horizon line - where the brown turns blue - much like my avatar.
You can try to switch to instrument view, but probably not a good idea until you’re used to flying without outside reference - that comes later and actually not really with any of the lessons.
Flaps to take-off is first position down from fully retracted. You’ll want to verify that before releasing brakes.
Let the speed build up to 55 kts before pitching up (pulling back), but remember not to overcorrect, you want it between first and second lines, that requires a steady but gentle pull and you might need to push down a little because chances are your pull back will be too much. Just like IRL for any student pilot.
Maintain that pitch and you will likely get up to 65-70 kts passing 500’.
Sorry but for the last hour I have tried various things and have yet to be able to take off. I am at the point that I will play other games to relax and unwind.
Thanks again
Can you take off in free-flight, or are you only unable in the training mission?
Go into the options page/flight model and confirm that you are set to modern NOT legacy.
This is often a result of the wrong flight model selected.
Under OPTIONS PAGE/FLIGHT MODEL it is set to MODERN.
I went into the non training programs and picked out a simple plane and
I HAD NO PROBLEM TAKING OFF.
I have decided to forget the takeoff part of training and work with the rest of the training.
My conclusion is that there is a glitch in the takeoff training.
Thanks everyone for your help.
Denny
Did you ever revisit this and, if so, what happened?
Yes I did. Same problem taking off but no problem taking off in other areas of training.
I am working with taking off and landing in another town. I crash or lose the airport. I only try twice then I quit for a few days (tension). Some day I will get there.
Out of interest was you you letting the rpm on the engine build up before releasing the brakes?
When you try again, can you look at your RPMs when you’re at max speed and attempting to take off, and tell us what it is? I’m wondering if your throttle controller isn’t calibrated to actually achieve full throttle, or if mixture isn’t set properly when taking off, giving you much lower engine power than normal.
When you load into the simulator, are you starting directly on the runway with engines on, or do you start parked with everything off?
On takeoff training the first try is parked then retry is on the runway. I use full RPMs on the runway. When I go in the program again I will use takeoff training and let you know my RPMs on the runway. Remember, I use a little Cessna, I think,. I use one side of the Airbus RPM control for this plane. I will try using both Controllers next time. Remember, on other training there is no problem taking off.
On takeoff training from off the runway I taxied on the runway and braked. Used one Airbus throttle it reached 2600 RPM. The second throttle did nothing. Released the brake. Down the runway the trainer said “too far down the runway. I was then placed on the runway and I went to 2600 RPM and released the brake. Went down the runway and tookoff. Reached 70 knots but trainer said " not fast enough”.
