Now you can save and reuse the positions of PopOut windows

I’m german, here it is shortly before midnight. So, i’ll make a short flight to Insbruck and then I go to bed. Of course on autopilot, because I’m really tired already

This really is good news. I’m currently use ‘ZMover’. But it is also limited to windows with a unique title and class.

Keep me informed about your progress, please.

Yes liking this - good effort so far and good luck developing it further! Please keep me/ us informed

I’d be very interested in your tool! Please let me know as soon as it’s available for us users. And thx in advance for your efforts!!

Thanks, I think I’m on a good path to correctly detecting those popouts. First, this is a preliminary alpha version to see if we are on the right way. In einem der nächsten Posts werde ich diese erste Version zur Verfügung stellen.

In one of the next posts I will provide this first version.

waiting on this great idea…

I am very interested in seeing this as well. At the moment I use Windows wallpaper that is identical to my 172 Air Manager panel (containing the GNS 530 and 430 bezels) and I manually position and size the popouts using that. Then I ‘show’ the Air Manager instrument panel. All a bit of a fuss, and anything that will remember the positions will be very welcome.

Until the OP actually releases something, look into Microsoft’s FancyZones tool that comes as part of their Windows 10 Power Toys. You can define a bunch of preset hot spots on your screen. You just have to shift+drag a window into that spot and it will resize to fit automatically. And you can save up to 10 profiles that you can easily recall with Ctrl+Start+Alt+ 1-0.

I’ve been using this with Air Manager for several months now and it’s great. Makes for fast setups.

It would be SO MUCH easier had MSFS just continued what they did for FSX…Give the pop out windows unique Titles and Class Nanes (rather than null). Why did they discontinue that good design practice?

That, added to automatic pop out saved status in the first place, then i could use some kind of programmable software. I used AutoHotKey in FSX to resize the instrument oanels at startup and selectively display and hide them depending on need during my flight. But any number if window control tools can be used, if you can specify the window name.

Well, obviously pop-outs have received exactly zero attention since launch. They’re more of an afterthought atm. They’re there. They don’t work right, they kill performance, and you can’t interact with them via touch screens. And if you have the misfortune of moving your mouse cursor over a popped out window, you lose all input to the sim from your external controllers. They’re a mess to say the least.

When they finally get around to multi-monitor (or more accurately, multiple viewport) support, perhaps what will change. At least hopefully it will.

Yes, this looks a decent workaround, cheers. When you say the Start key, do you mean the Windows key?

Yes, the windows start key on your keyboard.

Config is quick and easy. Move your mouse to the monitor where you want to place the window, and press Start + `. That will open the config window.

It’s a bit of a pain to set up initially. Not hard, but tedious. Once it’s set up though, it makes changing from one type of plane to another really quick and easy. I can easily switch up from flying a dual G1000 plane, the steam gauge C172, Mooney with a GTN750, or CJ4 over the course of a session. This makes setup quick and easy.

I agree with everything you say, but one important clarification. its hard for Asobo to treat it like an “afterthought”, considering they could examine what was in FSX before starting the new project. Somebody took the shortcut and did not rebuild FSX with all its capabilities, but “built” FS2020 from the ground up, selectively deciding which features of FSX to maintain or throw out. Thats quite a significant design shift, which haunts the team every day, based on the variety of missing things.

^^^ That ^^^

[Edit: I also just learned that there is a Windows Size and Position plugin for my newly acquired StreamDeck XL - though I have not tried it yet. I’m happy enough with DisplayFusion.]

Agreed. They already had an example but decided to pay no attention to it.

To me, it really feels like they built it without this support initially, and very late in the dev process near release, someone in some meeting brought up the fact this was a glaring omission. They added it quickly in its current half-assed state, and haven’t touched it since. THat’s what I mean by afterthought.

Yes, a remedial fix, if that.

That said, none of them actually played any flight sim before making MSFS. I remember an interview with either Seb or Martial from last summer (I didn’t know who was who at the time, but it was someone from Asobo) where he was asked if they had played FSX or XP to get an idea of how to do this. He replied that they hadn’t because those programs were too intimidating.

I wish I could find this interview again…

Oh, my, thats very distressing, but it explains a lot.

Indeed it does explain a lot.
