Nvidia App needed for DLSS4?

With SU2, Asobo have updated to the latest DLSS 4 and FG within the MSFS2024 core.

My question is: do we need the Nvidia APP to be able of using DLSS4?

Sim doesn’t come with the latest dlls version and the right (older) preset.

With a free program called dlls swapper you can get the latest dlss files and swap them real easy (dlls 310.2.1 and dlss frame generation 310.2.1). Then in the nvidia app you need to set the preset by setting the dlls override - model preset to “latest”

There is no need for the swapper, the Nvidia app alone does that.

True but with the older version of dlls files. Don’t think it would matter much though but can’t confirm that because after each update the first thing I do is a dlss swap

What do you mean with older versions? With the Nvidia app you get 310.2.1 and preset K, which are the newer versions.

Before SU2 the dlls file that comes with the sim install is an older version and after each update it will put this older version back. The nvidia app will use the dlss file(s) that are in the sim folder.
(It is possible that SU2 comes with the latest version but what I have read that’s not the case and I can’t check it anymore)

For me the location is: c:\Users%username%\steamapps\common\Limitless

Check in here the version of nvngx-dlss.dll

The Nvidia app replaces the sim versions with the latest version if you select latest in the app.

Ok… thx that wasn’t before SU2.

It has to do with the Nvidia app version and driver, not with the sim version. You now only need the swapper if you also want to update the FS3 version.

Its not correct..

I used the DLSS swapper earlier to check the DLSS and FG versions.

SU1 came with old files, but SU2 beta and SU2 comes with updated DLSS and FG files. I checked that throught DLSS swapper.

So my question really is only to know if I need the Nvidia app since MSFS2024 with SU2 have updated versions of DLSS and FG.

The reason I ask is also because I read that Nvidia App is not reliable, and many recommend to uninstall the application.

Nope, that’s not correct. Even SU3 beta comes with version 310.1.0.0, you only get 310.2.1.0 if you are using the Nvidia app or if you changed it with the swapper.
And FWIW, I’m using the Nvidia app here without any issues.

Just to clarify, SU1 came with DLSS 3.7.20 and DLSS FG 3.7.10.

In SU2 beta and SU2, Asobo updated the files version to 310.1.0. This can be easily checked with DLSS Swapper application..

310.1.0 and 310.2.1.0 are both DLSS 4..

So again, my question: why the need of Nvidia app when the files are updated within MSFS2024? Just trying to understand.

Thanks!

Only reason is to get the latest preset being used by the sim. Standard it’s on preset E. By setting the dlls override-model preset to “latest” instead of “Use 3D application setting” the sim will use preset K

Well, looks like we’re speaking different languages since you don’t seem to understand that 310.1.0.0 is not the most recent version, which you only get with the Nvidia app or the Swapper, so I quit.

Well because the dll’s that ship with the sim are usually not the latest so the benefit of the nVidia app is that it will always use whatever the latest versions are (via the overide “Latest” setting) giving you the insuing benefits of the new dll’s (and whatever improvements they provide) straight away

Why don’t you install the Nvidia App and try it? I have no issues with it but I do have Optimize Games turned off, and that can be turned off during installation of the app.

Currently the default DLSS without the app is 310.1.0.

If using the app with preset K, the DLSS version used by the sim will be 310.2.1.0 as has been explained.

I use the nvidia app “newest setting” for dlls4.
When i set HAGS off in windows the VRAM use is a lot smaller and dlls works smooth. But then the frame generation 2x (4000 series) or 3 and 4 (5000 series) doesn’t work anymore. (but amd fsr3 does work) When i set HAGS back on in windows the frame gen 2,3,4 works again, buit also a lot more VRAM use.Nearly at the limit in complex scenery (london) and this gives stutters!. So HAGS off, DLLS (DLAA) and AMD frame gen is the best solution for me and stutter free sim!
