Hello, I’ve been struggling with a visual issue with surfaces usually outside of the plane, especially concrete like taxiways/aprons flickering. It only occurs when the camera is in motion and when stopped it settles. I’m not particularly tech savvy but I think Nvidia Frame Generation seems to be what is causing it from my troubleshooting. As far as I know I couldn’t find anyone with the same issue so I assume it is user side. I like using frame generation for improved fps but this has been giving me a headache so if anyone has any ideas of a solution I’d greatly appreciate any input.
Here’s some video examples:
In the first one, pay attention to the taxiway after I exit the runway
The video compression doesn’t quite help but it gives you an idea. This next one should be 1440p
My Specs: RTX 4070 Ti, 64GB RAM, i7-13700K
Monitor: G32QC 2560x1440 set to 120 Hz
Nvidia drivers: 560.70
Thank you for your time,
RM
It’s likely a variable refresh rate issue. Your monitor is GSync compatible over displayport, not GSync certified. That means flickering can happen. The “flicker free” promise your monitor has is only for AMD Freesync. Turn it off and set vsync to adaptive.
I had similar issues when I was trying to force VRR on my Gsync “compatible” monitor. Just set Vsync to adaptive and forget about it and you wont get any tearing / flickering.
Thanks for your reply and sorry for the late response. I took your advice but unfortunately I still experience this weird issue. I haven’t done much much simming recently and have been trying to ignore the flickers when I do, but it’s still bothersome. It seems to happen on my second monitor as well which is an ASUS VG248 if that means anything. Just gonna keep trying to ignore it and maybe I’ll find a solution one day.
Late response, flicker can also happen when fps drops below 60 fps. You can either live with it or drop settings to boost fps.
Did you ever fix this issue?
I’ve heard that fg is recommended for 60 fps and above. then what is the point of using fg? why would I need it when I get 60 fps? nvidia really teases with us.
For me trying to get the game to run at 120 fps is worth it and frame gen helps tremendously there. Things are so incredible smooth, especially panning around. In my opinion this sim is made for the “gimmicks” like DLSS and FG. If they could solve the ghosting in DLSS, we could all default to that instead of TAA.
To answer your question, that’s what Nvidia recommends, however it can and will work with fewer fps without issue for msfs compared to other games. It can help if you are cpu bottlenecked or the occasional blip where fps drop and the gpu can insert some frames to compensate
