NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready Driver 535.98 Discussion

Out of interest, those that are suffering CTD in DX12 with the filters, how much VRAM have you got?

In DX12 with the filters engaged I’m seeing over 17GB of VRAM committed on a 3090, which I’d say is pretty punchy.

DX12; Frame Generation on; Nvidia overlay ON

1 hour flight EBBR to EGLL No CTD

Looks promising, seems fixed

Same here. Using DX12 on a RTX3070 in a test flight went very well, until on final approach the VRAM limit was exceeded and it went into powerpoint mode.

No CTDs whatsoever, but back to DX11 for me.

I think it’s fair to say DX12 just isn’t working at the moment. Tiling issues aside (let’s pretend that isn’t a massive problem for a second), DX12 is currently throwing a load at the GPU in terms of massive amounts of VRAM but is making all but no difference to the MainThread limitation. At the end of the day, that’s the point is it not?

I know people need DX12 for Frame Generation but you have to question ultimately if it’s worth it at the minute for all the issues it’s causing.

Well I’ve just had a different experience to most again.
I’ve never been able to run DX12 ever as it has continually CTD and gone to slide show.
With this new driver it runs butter smooth mostly ultra at 4K on my RTX3080. Two hour flight in the PMDG737 with no issues. Personally I can’t believe it.

I’m not dismissing what you’re saying, but as is the case from a 2080ti upwards, your GPU is largely irrelevant here. MSFS will happily push out Ultra settings 4K 60fps on a 2080ti with DLSS set to Quality. However, this game is all about the CPU, so unless you’re in VR putting a 4090 in your machine if the CPU doesn’t cut the mustard is a largely pointless endeavour.

The game will run happily at very good fps if you leave it stock, but virtually no one does. It’s a constant trade off between visual fidelity, bells and whistles and smoothness.

DX12 was meant to help this and take some of the load away from the CPU but thus far it doesn’t make a jot of difference. At least now, for those that wish to run that API, this new driver appears to stop the random crashing.

I have enabled DirectX 12 DLSS Frame Generation and HAGS, which is necessary for my setup. I also use NVIDIA Filters, and driver version 528.49 is the most recent STABLE release for MSFS that doesn’t cause any crashes.

My system consists of RYZEN 9 5950X CPU, 128GB RAM, NVIDIA RTX 4090, 2TB Samsung 990PRO SSD M.2.

I use the new driver and everything runs excellent with no CTD

The Freestyle filters issue was marked as fixed by mistake. It is now listed under Open Issues again.

Other than that, this one is working well, first since 531.29 that has been stable for me.

Hi there, with the new driver (as with all recent drivers), I am getting a very substantial drop in FPS (from capped 30 down to 20) when I am combining NVIDIA filters with popping out the ATC screen on a second monitor. Each of these on a standalone basis does not create an issue (well actually the popping out of the screen does but only 2-3 FPS) but the two together make it unplayable for me. Do people here think it is in the same type of issues as the CTDs or this would be like that in any case. I have to add that I have only recently started trying to apply the filters.

I’ve completed 2 short-haul European flights and a transatlantic without a single crash. No drop in FPS either. For me at least, it seems to have worked fine finally.

So far so good. With RTX 4070, HAGS on, DX12, DLSS with Frame generation on. Good performance and no CTD after an hour flight. Early days but looking good.

Did a few flights had one jitter on finals with add on Airport. Otherwise all is good no CTD. Rtx 4090, TAA, frame gen on. 104 fps.

I’ve done just over 18 hours now with DLSS/DX12 and all on ULTA with RTX 4090.

I’m completely stutter free with A&O’s, Spad.neXt, FSLTL Traffic, GSX, TDS-GTNXi, Navigraph Charts on second monitor, FSHUD, //42’s Flow Pro, 699 payware and freeware airports and so, so many other add-ons.

Getting 160-220 fps depending on the aircraft and flight plan including ORBX Edinburgh to iniScenes rather fps challenging Heathrow.

When flying the Longitude, I have three of the Garmin Touch Screens popped out to a 12" touch screen which gives me the lowest FPS.

I’m on the beta MSFS and I’m going to say, I’ve never been happier - the thing is as smooth as silk and I feel like the nightmare is over

I’ve disabled the message warning me about the driver.

Happy flying all.

EDIT - Over 28 hours now & no CTD

« I’ve disabled the message warning me about the driver. »

Hello. What message? DLSS?

If so, how do you disable it? Thanks.

The pop-up message when you start the sim suggesting that your NV driver may cause issues. If you disable it - if it appears - it will only come up again if you install a different driver other than the ones the message recommends.

535.98 does NOT fix the dreaded GFX card CTD.

I’ve been suffering with this since December, and quite honestly, I’m fed up to the teeth with it.

But, the last 2-3 weeks I have had no crashes, and had good GFX performance running 531.79 - yes, one of the drivers which is supposed to cause the problem, but didn’t for me.

So tempting fate, I installed this new 535.98, and what do you know, the GFX overheating blx is back. I did get one flight started, but the FPS was notably worse than with 531.79.

So I’m about to roll back to 531.79 to try my luck with that again.

What a mess.

I think you need more RAM.

Who? Me?

If so, why would you say that?

You don’t even know my specs…

Try using NVIDIA Filters.
