The nvidia recommended settings always rely on dlss even on my older 3060ti.
For msfs (20 or 24) this works terribly as glass cockpits blur on older cards.
I run TLAA because it works best for glass cockpits on older cards. I wish NVIDIA could recommend sensible settings for tlaa as it is heavier, and the other settings expect DLSS to be used, so when it’s not performance is worse. I can obviously reduce my settings manually, but nvidia has recommendations and i wish to use them based on all my system details.
I appreciate this may not be a msfs24 thing to do but I assume that asobo/microsoft provided recommendations to NVIDIA for that tool? can someone talk to nvidia about this, thanks.
" NVIDIA taps into the power of the NVIDIA cloud data center to test thousands of PC hardware configurations and find the best balance of performance and image quality. Then it automatically configures personalized graphics settings based on your PC’s GPU, CPU, and display"
Asobo couldnt provide the information as there are too many different pc setups
well that sucks… because of course the performance is better with DLSS generally, but in MSFS, on older cards, it makes it unplayable (not being able to read altitide and speed is pretty critical in an aircraft), which automated tools won’t know about.
I have an RTX 2060 and have no problem with screens even on performance DLSS setting. Balanced and Quality is even better.
From my experience, the issue isn’t DLSS per se, but your NVidia Control panel settings that need to be tuned. I’ve found ever since the 40 series drivers were released they have become extremely twitchy, and it took me a lot of testing to figure out which of the NV CP settings was causing a couple of different game/PC system lockup issues in MSFS, Starfield, AMS2, BEAMNG, and WRC EA - my regular sim installs.
Two issues:
- Audio would start to stutter, then game would go black, and PC would freeze.
- Close game, and a few minutes later the PC would freeze.
Initially I thought it was DLSS, but it turns out the real killer is some issue with anisotropic settings that is the system killer, in particular Texture Filtering Anisotropic Sample Optimization I need to set OFF, and anisotropic filtering needs to be 3D Application Controlled.
There’s a few other Windows and NVCP settings I need to do for max performance (Low latency ultra etc), but otherwise DLSS is fine. I am on 2K though, so maybe it’s the higher resolution as well.
I uninstalled the NVidia app as that doesn’t seem as stable as NVidia Control Panel in enforcing the settings, despite them saying it does so. System behavior said otherwise, and the AI cloud tuning is unreliable as well.
Personally I’d prefer Asobo implement FSR3+ with FG in MSFS, as that works fine in Starfield on my old RTX 2060, and is as good if not better than DLSS due to the FG. Unfortunately NVidia isn’t interested in backporting FG to 20/30 series cards, mainly to just try and force upgrades by manufactured feature restriction I suspect, which is an extremely poor attitude towards long term customers.
DLSS works this way for all graphics cards, not just older models, which is why I never recommend optimizing games through Nvidia application. It’s better to manually adjust the in-game settings and disable the optimization feature.

While I can definitely say that the text on glass cockpits was a bit blurry with DLSS3.5, I’ve been trying out DLSS4 in the weekend and the results are fantastic. used the in-game settings, but with the new DLSS4 dll and profile forcing through the inspector, and the text on DLSS Quality was almost as good as native, 95% there - definitely will continue using DLSS from now on.
One reason to not use DLSS is simply whether you are CPU bottlenecked really badly or not, causing stutters and whatnot, the infamous " you gotta balance GPU and CPU with settings", so that could be a reason so use TLAA and not DLSS, so you add more load on the GPU (and increase quality at the same time).
But strictly DLSS4, it’s great and i’ll use it going forward. Since I was able to force it by replacing the dll and forcing the profile via nVidia Inspector, I think it’s going to work just fine via the nVidia App, unless MSFS adds DLSS4 support at launch.
I’m hesitant to try the nVidia App again. It was a mess the first time. But maybe I’ll give it another try.
I did update to DLSS 4 and enabled the ‘J’ preset, as detailed in this video. Results are excellent on my 3090 Ti. Most notably, the visual quality of DLSS Perfomance, which, with DLSS 3.8, was less than optimal, making DLSS Quality my preference. I could be happy with DLSS Performance now - if I needed it for the most difficult aircraft/airport combos.
As of last night. I dont think its the nvidia app. I think its the overlay. I had like 6 nvcontainers ,5 nvapp, and 5 other nvidia software running in task manager. I turned off the overlay and MSFS 2024 picked up some performance.i Dont use the overlay anyway. I have a feeling its the same gforce experience in different clothes.
I think it’s both. I turned off the NVidia app overlay (which is recommended anyway) and still had issues. Uninstalled (a few times, as I’ve restested a few releases).
I thought Steam overlay was also causing issues at one point (pre-nvidia app beta, but it didn’t turn out to be the case. Windows Game Bar also appears to be ok.
I just stick to NVidia Control Panel for now, hopefully by the time they decide to decommision it the bugs might be worked out of the NVidia app. Nvidia stability has turned into a real lottery the last year or so.
Nvidia made a lot of adjustments for displays used in like MSFS, Cyberpunk etc. with DLSS4. And can now ignore certain parts of the screen.
Digital Foundry had a nice interview with a Nvidia VP about DLSS4 on YT.
Why quote misinformation that isn’t true? Well, it’s true that Asobo didn’t provide information, nobody asked them too. That’s not how it works.
The quote is from nVidia
Ok, I could be wrong. But that’s not how I read -
It says here that nVidia does the testing (I assume reads reports from users through their “improvement program” access).
Care to post the source?
It’s here

Hey team. I got the nvidia profile manager tool, followed the instructions for installing dlss 310.xxx (not 4 apparently but close enough) and chose profile f (not j) and I found glass cockpit ■■■■ close to great! J was worse for glass cockpit but f was heaps better
I assume it’s not actually using dlss 4?but it’s dlss and works well for me. 7800x3d,64gb ram and a 3060ti, the recommended settings from the nvidia app work fine. Altho nza’s nzch scenery loads poorly. Otherwise I’m happy to finally have dlss workable!
I don’t see how you could think I could possibly find the quote where they said that Asobo didn’t give them enough information because there are too many PC setups on the app… Please quote the quote here where they say that…
No mate. I provided the quote. I provided the source of the quote ( as you requested). If you can’t be bothered to read what is on the page then that’s a you problem. I am not your wet nurse. You are the one that came out shooting
Well then, it’s pretty clear to me they didn’t say those words, all you did was send me too the app download page. I searched everywhere and didn’t see them say anything of the sort that ‘Asobo didn’t send them information’ .
