Nvidia Users- Here's how to change your 2D settings to make things look much more real

Thanks. That’s a good start.

Basically I would first try to match the colors as good as you can without making a mess. White should be white, etc.

Don’t overdo it though. It is not very difficult but depends on the capabilities of the monitor. If you have an IPS screen you can expect the colors to match, but TN screens have limits, especially black is no more than a dark gray, and other parameters like contrast or lumen also determine the limits of your screen.

And write down your old settings and new ones too. It’s terribly frustrating if you lose settings if you later realize you need to go back.

I made some more comparison shots (settings are the same I posted above, which is a good sign)

As before, look at full resolution originals to see the best detail. Should you see no difference or like the “before” shots more, you obviously shouldn’t bother. Otherwise it is definitely worth a try.

■■■■ what are the settings?

scroll a bit up to my post Nvidia Users- Here's how to change your 2D settings to make things look much more real - #75 by RageQuitBob 1d ago until you find my settings.

Thx love:airplane::handshake:

Can I say you are my life saver?! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
I tried your settings a couple of days ago, and I found that they were great.
I felt like I was watching a airplane documentary with proper color,
it was like Pilotseye, or more of a deja vu feeling, recalls me pastdays using DSLR to do plane spotting.

That makes me very happy to hear.

I would however say that those settings can only be the start to make final adjustments to your particular monitor and resolution, they will never automatically match but only few small steps remain to relative perfection.

Yesterday I’ve tried those filters. Finally I got rid of that foggy and yellowish look :+1: Game looks so much better.

Hi, I just stumbled onto this thread and would love to try this but… when I open the overlay and click “Game Filters,” a box pops up in the top right corner saying “You need a supported game to use this feature” (or something to that effect).

Yes, I have MSFS running when I open the overlay, and yes, it’s listed in GeForce Experience as a game in my library. What am I doing wrong? Much thanks for the help.

No  I assure you that it’s the same color as any other country. However, US shows tend to use a yellow filter when something is supposed to take place in Mexico. 'cause you know, we wouldn’t know the difference otherwise. So we’re just making fun of that.

I had this happen just now too. Somehow it got resolved when I ‘favorited’ MSFS within GeForce Experience, then exited out of MSFS and started it back up again.

Hard to see why no one has mentioned DSR available in NVCP global settings as effectively it gives antialiasing of up to 4x that of your native resolution. Especially fantastic when playing older poorly aliased games.

True, but this is one area where I will accept the drop because it just makes such a positive change to how the game looks. In fact I cannot play any game without RS. Its just a couple of FPS loss anyway and sometimes theres no loss at all (depending on what filters I’ve turned on)

However I would imagine ANY overlay that hooks into a games graphics process will have an FPS impact, even GFE filters.

Interesting I did not know this, even as a long time user of RS.

Good comment, said it much better than me.

Crosire is an absolute genius, he has utterly transformed games for me!

Personally I am not convinced by all this tweaking of brightness, colour etc. as it is so subjective and the suggested settings are very dependent on the specific hardware being used.

I am pushing an older GTX 1060 equipped Alienware m15 (i7-8750H CPU, 32Gb RAM) laptop to the max already with a Samsung Odyssey G9 C49G95T 49inch GSync compatible monitor at native resolution 5120x1440 plus two 10inch Android tablets running as extended displays connected via Spacedesk over Windows Mobile Hotspot Wifi to run two browser based instances of SkyElite set up to use the integrated GPU (one PFD and one MFD). In-game I have resolution set to 3840X1080 with 65% render scaling and LOD’S at 100, everything else is a mixture of high and ultra. My NVidia settings follow general recommendations. With this setup I get a great looking display and smooth performance, even though my FPS is quite low, averaging 20-25 at best most of the time, although it does tank if I fly low over places like London with photogrammetry. I use a lot of addons such as AIG traffic etc, some of which do rob FPS to some extent. Frankly I am amazed that I can run all this successfully on my hardware.

Anyway having read your comment about DSR I checked my settings out of curiosity and sure enough it was off by default. I did some online research which suggested that I really needed a 20 series or better GPU to use it without too much FPS penalty. However just as an experiment I tried it with the 1.50x setting and the smoothness slider left at default 33%. I was pleasantly surprised to see a noticeably sharper picture and improved detail without any significant drop in FPS.

Thanks for your tip. It was certainly worth trying out.

Hi. I tried your settings and I am absolutely blown away by the result. The colors look much more true to life now. I have no idea why they went with this greenish filter ? I have an LG OLED and I usually play with HDR on. But with your settings the game looks actually better with HDR off. This is insane lol. I am hoping you can further fine tune your settings ? Thanks anyways.

I am happy that you like my filter settings.

As to improving them there isn’t really much I can do. Of course you can always make some small change but to improve them beyond this subjective stage would require tools and knowledge that I dont have.

I usually just set the time to and compare with what I saw in real life. But when I do this with dusk/dawn environment a single setting wont do it anymore and I need two different filters. So well, developing a special low light filter would maybe make sense, but then you have to constantly switch the filters and that is not something people really want.

As to why they “chose” the filter is less a matter of choice, but a consequence of too many filters in place. The imagery in MSFS, while creating an impressive illusion of natural light, is grotesquely blurry and weird, and no post processing filter can fix that. In fact what we do is totally ridiculous, we use a sharpening filter on an upscaled, downscaled, blurred filter, it is complete insanity. As a consequence the graphics in MSFS looks good but only in a low resolution, and crispness is totally unattainable.

If you add filters upon filters the image will look more and more like went through photoshop art filters.
In fact some of that is already showing in the screenshots. That means areas will become one color, like in an oil painting. As to why people are content with this, I couldn’t say. I noticed that computer graphics in the last 10 years has actually regressed and only looks good if you look at them from afar.

just to show what I mean a sample from one of the screenshots

I can’t see any details, just outlines filled with a color range.

Sort of like the BLUE filter used in almost all NYC tv shows and movies… LOL

I use that Nvidia filter for all my gaming needs, it’s a thing of beauty.

Thank you for this I was just searching the forum for white balance and came across this thread. Couldn’t understand why everything was being rendered with a ‘warming filter’ applied. Have my TV on ‘cool’ setting, but doesn’t help with screen grabs which always have to be cool filtered in PS. I’ve seen this ‘warming’ with FS on XBox, laptop, and now on new desktop, so it seems like its an in game rendering choice by the devs independent of platform? Will go check out the nVidia Experience overlay. Thanks again.
