NZ sceneries

I would suggest us to list the add-on sceneries of the New Zealand which are ok after the NZ World Update.

I start with these two:

  • NZA Simulations - NZWS – Westport Airport
  • NZA Simulations - NZRO – Rotorua Airport

Flightbeam - NZAA - Auckland
Flightbeam - NZWN - Wellington

also working fine.

NZA - NZMC - Mt Cook/Glentanner
NZA - NZNS - Nelson

work okay for me.

Water masks look a bit iffy / blocky around Flightbeam’s NZAA after update but working fine otherwise. I haven’t checked NZWN, but I suspect it’s the same.
I’ve also checked Ini’s Queenstown and it looked fine too didn’t do a detailed check around the entire periphery of scenery as it covers a widish area I think.

These have just been updated too (yesterday) with interiors and people. They are now two tiny downloads with one extra scenery library file.

Just briefly visited Nelson this morning, fantastic scenery. NZA airports are top notch, I think I have them all now freeware/payware.

These freeware airports from the flightsim.to seems to be ok:

  • NZKE Waiheke Island
  • NZWV Waihi Beach
  • NZCI Chatham Islands (some minor issues with elevations)

But on the other hand NZWR Whangarei Airport is broken.

Having just completed a ‘tour’ of New Zealand I now have to start again - or do I? I have watched a couple of YouTube vids and some of the scenery that I have seen on those is, frankly, pants. Milford Sound (with no snow or ice!) looks a bit like a very poor impressionist daub and some of the tree areas on mountain sides were described, by one YouTuber, as like a spread tablecloth with broccoli painted on - quite accurate. I have only flown Mt Cook to Queenstown and, whilst it was OK I wasn’t stunned - and I still left my descent into Rwy 23 too late.

I shall keep an open mind until I have explored a bit more, but as a back country aviator I will keep the ORBX 10m mesh on standby. Personally, I am not too bothered whether every house in Wellington is accurately depicted or Christchurch airport is spot on, the magic of NZ for me are the wilderness areas and what little I have seen so far doesn’t fill me with glee.
