Hey there,
since we have the great new FS2024 web flight planner, I started to look more into approach plates and procedures. So far I thought that my basic understanding now was quite OK
…until just now, when I tried to land the A321 on the NZQN RNAV RNP F approach.
The final approach goes from GUSAS (above 6720ft) to QN581 (AT 4120ft).
Problem is, QN581 very close to RW05, which is at approx. 1100ft (so 3000ft lower!)
It’s not possible to go that steep. What am I doing/thinking wrong pls?
My understanding of this approach: If you look closely at the RNP F approach plate, in the lower right corner, there is an inset that shows how to proceed for either runways after QN581. If at QN581 you are in Visual flight condition, you either make a “sort of 360” visually to the right while descending back to QN581 for runway 05 (watch for the hill at 2740 feet), or circle north of the airport around QN VOR for runway 23.
If not in Visual flight condition at QN581, then it calls for a missed approach
If my interpretation is wrong, I’m happy to be corrected.
Thanks for the quick reply, I somehow did not know what to do with that visual inset.
I found that here is also a chart only for that “visual circuit” in a shape of “8”
So it really seems that there is no real IFR landing available, it always comes down to a visual final.
Interesting, because circling in that terrain with an airbus sized plane sounds like madness
