My entry into MSFS VR was woeful, initially only getting 11-20 FPS. After a week of trial and error, here are the settings that now work for me. My 5600x is overclocked to 4850Mhz and the 3070 as shown in the image. The OTT executable shows FSUIPC as I have this set to load when MSFS loads. Also, I have ProvideAIdata=No included in my FSUIPC ini file - I find this really reduces the number of MSFS crashes. I recently upgraded to 64GB RAM and find that this really reduces stutters and increases overall smoothness in the sim!
With these settings I get a solid 36FPS in VR. Even departing EGLC London and flying along the Thames is reasonably smooth now.
[EDIT]
I’m getting good FPS with the above settings, but still I am prone to crashes. I’ve modified the above settings (see below) to increase stability. The settings below have allowed for 7 flights so far without a crash and no real discernable difference in graphics quality.
FSUIPC isn’t used so much for VR purposes. It is a bridge for MSFS and other third party addons. I primarily use it to link to Pilot2ATC. FSUIPC FSUIPC & Pilot2ATC
I just run it alongside MSFS. Before I put the headset on, I connect it to the sim, load the flight plan, validate and file it, put VR headset on. I dont look at Pilot2ATC while I’m flying - just have it running in the background. You can interact fine with it without having to look at it
I’ve thought of doing that, but then you can’t see the prompts for atc phrases and frequencies. I guess if you enable the copilot to work the comm and radios and don’t say it yourself?
Thanks. I’ve been using air Link and VD. Are you aware of settings that you recommend in your OP that are specific to Link, that would need changing for VD/air link? Can I assume you tried the other two and are convinced Link is superior? I ask because my earlier experience with Link was troublesome so I’d like to see if it’s worth trying again. And, I really appreciate all the work you put into your post above. I’d given up on messing with settings, hoping some day GPUs will become purchasable again.
I tried both Virtual Desktop and Air Link but was satisfied with neither. I should note that my PC is not directly connected to the router but connects via WiFi. For me, Oculus Link via cable was the most stable route and gave me good fps.
