Hello, I am new here so please excuse my mistakes. I have an Oculus Quest 2 and have been trying to get it to work with MSFS for VR, but nothing so far. My cable passes the test for speed, and I have beta testing enabled with all the updates. I have OpenXR downloaded, but I’m not sure I have put the right runtime into Registry Editor. Before I changed it however, when I clicked switch to VR in MSFS, it said no headset detected, but now I click it and nothing happens. Can someone please help me out? I have restarted my computer multiple times after the changes to see if that helped and nothing has worked. Thanks.
It works for me. There are some good articles on making it work I had to dig for them. You need the Rift Cable and a high speed USB-C port on your computer. I need to make some notes on the installation and share.
When I run the USB cable test, it has 2.2 GB of speed and works fine, I have gone through so much stuff and I am lost. Sorry if it’s a bad question but what is the runtime? Like what do I type in the registry editor?
I know you need to install Oculus software from Oculus.com and check the open beta box in Oculus headset settings.
I already have both of these installed, so I’m not sure why it isn’t working. I also have oculus link enabled on my headset.
You may want to ensure the headset is updated (now v25 released) and the Link software is up to date as well.
Does the LINK software show connected? You also have to keep the LINK software running by the way for MSFS2020 to talk to the headset.
Worse case, look into wireless method with virtual desktop and steamVR. I switched and never looked back. My flights are so smooth now.
I expect the problem is the wrong openxr is written into the registry. You don’t need to use anything other than the openxr that already comes with the Oculus software. Go to the VR section on here and check out Captlucky8 and his instruction set.
I strongly suggest you try Virtual Desktop with SteamVR instead, as long as you have a decent Wifi router.
I have an old PC with 1660 Super. It’s unplayable at all with Oculus Link cable, but with VD I can now enjoy MSFS VR with 100% render scale and medium to high graphic settings.
Thank you for your response. I think I messed something up in my OpenXR, so I am wondering what I need to type into in the Registry Editor. Thank you again.
I have tried Virtual Desktop but unfortunately it has not worked for me either.
The link software shows connected, and I can get into the Oculus link menu in my headset, however now my game says headset not detected.
Do you see the semi circle navigation bar In VR in your HMD? after you have clicked connect link cable option?
When that pops up you will see two panels on it on the right hand side-one says “virtual desktop” and another says “add a desktop” use that “virtual desktop” point your controller at it and then your pc screen should appear with MSFS game running . Push “ready to fly” with either your mouse or the controller pointer. Then push CNTRL & TAB on keyboard a funny small screen will appear with jagged B/W lines then after that has changed MSFS to VR you will be in VR in the cockpit.
If you also have Steam, for other games you need to check the registry because it may use Steam instead of open XR.
From the MSFS website…
Before using VR in Flight Simulator with an Oculus headset, the computer needs to know the location of the OpenXR runtime to use. Please follow the steps below to set this location in the registry:
- Right-click on your Start menu and select Run .
- Type in “regedit ” (without quotations) and hit Enter. This will launch the Registry Editor.
- Locate the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Khronos\OpenXR\1
- For ActiveRuntime change its value to the one that matches your platform (note: default path is shown below):
C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-runtime\oculus_openxr_64.json - Close the Registry Editor . You are now ready to enter VR with your Oculus headset.
After this, start MSFS in 2D, once in menu, go to options, VR and then map the important keys to the keyboard, they are not mapped. Then activate VR with the activate VR button.,
