Hi there, I am new to the Microsoft Flight Simulator and new to Virtual Reality. I researched within these forums and on other sites and cannot find a straight forward answer.
I am trying to use the Virtual Desktop app on my Oculus Quest 2 to run Microsoft Flight Simulator. So, no Link cable from my Oculus Quest 2 to my computer. I purchased Microsoft Flight Simulator through the Microsoft store. I connect my PC to my Oculus Quest 2 using Virtual Desktop Streamer as the Virtual Desktop app requires.
I am finding threads that mention Steam and to change your registry key to Steam, etc…but I do not use or have Steam. I purchased Microsoft Flight Simulator through the Microsoft store.
I have the latest version of Microsoft Flight Simulator so I see the VR Mode option within the simulator, it just doesn’t do anything when I try to switch to VR Mode.
Can someone please let me know what needs to be done in my situation?
You need to download/join the SteamVR Beta and set SteamVR to the active runtime under the developer settings tab, doesn’t matter where you bought it or what headset you are using as long as it’s SteamVR only (Like Quest over Virtual Desktop)
You can’t play Virtual Desktop VR without downloading Steam, dunno what kind of black magic you using
Thank you for replying. It’s an app available for purchase through the Oculus store. It’s called Virtual Desktop. I’m not able to add links on this forum but if you Google Oculus Virtual Desktop you can see it. It’s not Virtual Desktop VR through Steam. Does that help?
I know what app you are referring to, because I know the developer personally (Not personally we just were Discord friends at one point don’t correct me on that pls :3)
The app with the monitor icon that is natively on quest and has the black menus and the environments and all of that, yes. Google how to use ‘Sidequest’ on the Quest 2 and install the ‘Virtual Desktop VR patch’ from there. Then you need to follow the steps on my comment above

I’m confused. I have the Quest 2 headset and have connected it with a C cable to my computer. I get the question as to whether I want to let the computer access files on the headset and I allow it. However, nothing happens when I do Ctrl-Tab. Do I need Virtual Desktop? If so, on the headset or the computer?
Neither. You are using a completely different method to Ace.
You need to install the Oculus PC software and follow the instructions on the pinned post on the VR categories.
I got it “working” with VD and SteamVR even though I purchased through Microsoft store. However I’m stuck on the runway with no input or ability to recenter
Maybe if you had read 3 comments above you’d have known
Anyways yeah it works, and tho reprojection is significantly less effective overall performance is better and the jittering effect is gone on Quest 1
