Oculus Rift S - Flashing Oculus Home View / App View in infinite loop

I’m not sure what happened but as of one of the most recent patches, when I start VR Mode with my Oculus Rift S (using Public Beta channel) my headset (and primary monitor) initially show the loading screen without issue. However, when the cockpit loads it starts flashing between the Oculus Home view and the cockpit on the headset and on my PC. Has anyone else had this happen? Is there a specific version of Oculus that works best with MSFS2020?

Same problem here, no solution found

Same ■■■■. Rift S and Quest 2 as well.

I have the same problem. Up to the cockpit view, it is still possible to see the VR in the glasses. As soon as the loading screen is finished, the monitor view flickers and the Oculus homescreen is visible in the glasses. After that I can only reset the simulator.

The last time VR works, i had open the VFR Map. Unfortunately my plane crashed and the msfs too. After the restart, there was no VFR map open in the normal mode with one monitor. I activated the second monitor, expand the display and there the VFR map minimized in one edge of the monitor # 2. I closed it and start VR and everything was fine. After approximately 1 second the VFR Map opened again without any command from myself. A miracle  When you now leave VR you will not see an activate VFR Map in the normal mode. Strange but true at least at my computer.
So before leaving VR close the vfr-map and restarting of VR is possible!
For me that works. Strange but true.

Please see above. Perhaps that is the trouble for you too.

You were right!I closed the VR card before going into VR mode and it worked. Thanks for the good tip!

Try enabling ‘Oculus Homeless’ in Oculus Tray Tool as a workaround.

People are tired of reading this probably, but I too am having this issue and support has been too quiet on helping other than canned responses.

It’s strictly an MSFS issue – you can use the headsets in other titles (assetto corsa) without any isssues.

I’ve tried the canned response from zendesk. As well as:
-reload nvidia drivers
-reload oculus / oculus beta
-reload steam / steamvr
-reload msfs2020 (a few times)
-changed openxr via registry
-changed openxr via apps
-deleted windows 10 monitor cache
-launched fs through virtual desktop / cliff house / steam / desktop icon
-disabled / renabled vr through fs menus
-reset all settings to default
-created new machine user profile

All with the same end result. All is fine until cockpit view (of any plane / arrival / departure / mode)

I have a couple threads in reddit if you’d like to join / read to help us get resolve:
/r/OculusriftS/ /rift_s_and_flight_simulator_2020/
/MicrosoftFlightSim/ /help_vr_mode_kicks_in_and_out_repeatedly/

I was glad to see others - when this happened last week i couldn’t find any other symptom matches with others until this post.

I am currently reloading the PC to see if

This is interesting; I will definitely try and report back if needed.
Currently reloading rig to try and resolve.

I’m happy to report that I have found a cause and a workaround.
This stems from almost 2 weeks worth of troubleshooting / support / forums / etc. I hope it can help a few others too.

-New load of windows 10
-new nvidia drivers
-new oculus drivers
-new steam drivers
-new msfs2020 install

still had the same issues

here’s what I had to do in addition:
install steam vr
make steam vr the openxr app
reboot
enroll the the steamvr beta
reboot
unchecked the steamoverlays, etc., anything that would evoke steamvr i unchecked.
regedit the khronos\1 registry key back to the oculus_openxr_64.json
closed all apps
reboot
opened oculus
device green
opened msfs 2020 from desktop shortcut
loaded
got into the cockpit

no screens, no atc, no nothing selected, however THE ICON SHOWED that one / some where selected (but none were, the main icon was white). I selected all the options in the ones that said there was something, then went back and de-selected all.

checked the toolbar again, all icons not white
enabled VR mode
reset my position – expected the loop
and all of a sudden i’m sitting in the cockpit. after a few seconds, the vr map , atc and objects popped up in the vr. I was able to fly again (without STEAMVR, the framerate was horrible and choppy) smooth as expected.
before exiting, I made sure to close out all menu items in the vr. then disable the mode.
made sure all was closed out in cockpit before ending / exiting to desktop.

I now check the menus before enabling VR – until it’s fixed.
