Odd Triangle Polygons Around Lights - FlyTampa Airports


ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

At all of my FlyTampa airport sceneries (KLAS, KBOS, LGAV, EHAM) it seems that some runway light textures are replaced by odd triangular polygons.

Did you experience this issue before you joined the Beta?

No. In fact, I tested all of these during December and January when the sim launched and did notice these problem. However, as I have been waiting for third-party aircraft compatibility for FS2024, I did not fly to or from them, merely loaded into the sceneries and ensured they were functional.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

No - these are third party airports. While at least one of these is from the Marketplace (KBOS, LGAV), the others tested (KLAS, EHAM) are in my Community folder.

I do not have any generic “airport improvement” or other utility mods of that nature in my Community folder.

I do not experience this with any other developer’s airports, nor do I recall experiencing it prior to the SU2 Beta.

I guess you were lucky to have not experienced this prior to SU 2.

In FlyTampa’s forums, a couple of other users reported these issues in January and February, before the SU 2 beta came out:

Unfortunately, I don’t see anyone from FlyTampa in this thread acknowledging the issue.

Yeah I never experienced this at all prior to SU2, though to be fair most of my flying around these airports has been in daylight, where they are much less prominent. I have flown around KLAS at dusk though, and just after sunset and did not see the issue at the time. Not sure why not.

As a partial update, I saw today in FS2020 that there was a new Marketplace update to LGAV. One of the items in the release notes was improved FS2024 compatibility. Sure enough, when I later loaded into FS2024, the odd triangular lighting textures had been corrected, along with the scenery itself being updated.

I have at least one other FlyTampa Marketplace scenery (KBOS) and two in my Community Folder (KLAS and EHAM). I hope those others get updated similarly.

Further to this problem, I found a post on the FT forums that was specific to KLAS in '24. One of the posters pointed to a mod he created, on FS . to, to enhance the GA areas of the scenery, but he includes some optional .bgl files to both correct the triangle textures issue there, but also to reduce the super-bright lighting around the Strip, which is overdone in '24.

I tried this mod and it works! It does indeed correct the triangles issue at KLAS. Furthermore, it also corrects the issue at KBOS, and fixes most (but not all) issues at EHAM as well. Schipol still has a problem with one specific set of textures around runway entrance ramps that is not fixed with this mod. However, by disabling KLAS entirely, the issue at Schipol goes away.

Therefore, it seems to me that the root of the issue is something specific to having FT’s KLAS installed, which is causing some kind of texture problem that is affecting all FT sceneries in '24.

EDIT: Actually sometimes this mod works for other FT sceneries in '24 and sometimes it doesn’t. I’m not sure if there are rolling cache issues involved, or GPU shader caches involved as well.

The only real solution seems to be to disable FT’s KLAS, which fixes all the issues at other sceneries.

Hopefully FlyTampa push out an update to KLAS eventually, which would correct the issue for all their sceneries when installed together in FS’24.
