FLIGHT DETAILS

November is Aviation History Month! To celebrate, our Community Fly-In this week will be to a location where historic and vintage aircraft of all shapes and sizes are preserved and displayed for all to enjoy, the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC!

We will depart from LaGuardia Airport in New York, fly on a southwesterly heading over Manhattan and past the Statue of Liberty, then onwards to Philadelphia and Baltimore for touch and go landings. We will then tour the DC area, including flying over the National Mall and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.

For the best experience, make sure you have downloaded and installed the free World Update II and World Update X from the Marketplace.

Pilots on PC can download the .pln file here:
2023-11-24 Aviation History Month.PLN (3.9 KB)

We will be starting at KLGA. Please load your aircraft 10 minutes prior to take off and taxi over to the runway in preparation for departure.

AIRCRAFT

Recommended aircraft: Since this flight is a celebration of aviation history, we suggest using one of the many vintage aircraft available in Microsoft Flight Simulator. You can see a list of the aircraft on display at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum here. Many of these planes are available in the sim. Please make sure your choice can maintain a cruise speed of about 100 knots so you can complete the flight plan in about two hours.

MULTIPLAYER SETTINGS

Please adhere to the following settings so you can see everyone / be seen by everyone.

Variable Setting
Server SE Asia
Multiplayer All Players
Live traffic As preferred
Weather Few Clouds
Time of Day Daytime

It is advised in this flight to turn off both aircraft collisions and terrain collisions. If you do crash, you can use “slew” mode to join the pack. If the pack will be too scattered before the first stop, we will use slew on a defined point to regroup.

COMMUNICATION

To communicate with others, a voice channel on the "Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Discord” at https://discord.gg/msfs will be available to join.

LET’S FLY

This is meant to be a fun and informal flight. Everybody is welcome, no matter the amount of experience.

Ah! finally a slower flight!

That opens this up to some of the dusty aircraft in the hanger.

A slower flight allowed me to take this beauty out. Absolute pleasure to fly this plane, and I don’t give it enough chance to show that off. Highly recommended if you’re into some slower flying!

Lot’s of cool aircraft around today.

Stunning city view.

Some formation flying.

Generously sized flock of misfits.

The Rocky steps.

The weather and timing was perfect for some scenic views and lighting.

Had one strange error I never had before in the sim, clicking retry crashed the sim and I had to restart and join again midflight, the error happened again, and I ignored it, but it came back up. So I just put it in the background, the sim still worked normaly. Very weird. Otherwise a nice flight!

Pub quiz in the sky! A fun addition to an as always fun community flight. Seeing so many awesome older airplanes made me realise I should fly those some more in the sim!

I don’t like saying “tardy to the party” I don’t think that fits the situation… I think I was more so “late at the gate”
couldn’t join the flight, and couldn’t do it early so I did it late and took a faster plane, didn’t have much time today but wanted to get in a flight
