FLIGHT DETAILS

This week we’re trying something a little different: there’s no flight plan, and we’re not flying from A to B. Instead, we’ll be having a group meeting in the New York City area, with the catch being that everyone will be flying an unconventional aircraft type (i.e. not a powered fixed wing airplane or helicopter). Instead, we’ll all be flying non-traditional aircraft like hot air balloons, blimps, gliders, eVTOLs, or powered parachutes!

We will be starting at your choice of KJFK, KEWR, or KLGA then meeting up over Central Park in Manhattan. Please load your aircraft 10 minutes prior to take off and taxi over to the runway in preparation for departure.

AIRCRAFT

Recommended aircraft: SkyShip 600 blimp, Hot Air Balloon, Archer Midnight, Joby S4, Jetson One, Powrachute Sky Rascal, Volocopter Velocity, or any non-conventional aircraft of your choice.

MULTIPLAYER SETTINGS

Please adhere to the following settings so you can see everyone / be seen by everyone.

LET’S FLY

This is meant to be a fun and informal flight. Everybody is welcome, no matter your platform, sim version, or level of experience.

Sounds like Fun

Does the Pelican count as unconventional aircraft type?

Absolutely! And the Ornithopter too!

A bit sparse on players in FS2024 SU3 Beta, but I have enjoyed my balloon flight. I even went up for a higher look.

Didn’t expect the “Flying Dutchman”

Started with the gyro copter, but switched to the mini500 later on. As I finally got my VPC Collective today, and was able to install it to my motionrig just in time for the flyin.

Model matching still has problems:

But sometimes it seems quite accurate.
I like how there is almost the same chopper in the photogrammetry image:

It’s really weird that you saw my stock Bell 407, with a stock livery, as a business jet.

Sorry for bringing something so conventional today. I have not yet tried any of the more unconventional planes, and didn’t have controller profiles ready for those.

In addition, the current Beta build is extremely unstable for me, and my expectation for today was to just give up after one or two CTDs, so I didn’t feel like trying a new aircraft.

Well, I did have two CTDs, but today’s format of inner-city shenanigans made these less annoying than usual, since none of you guys were really “moving on” while I restarted the sim. After the second CTD I disabled all road and ship traffic on a gut feeling (after having tried a bazillion other things before) and could miraculously stay in the event until the end.

I had a lot of fun, more fun than what I thought I could have with two CTDs getting in the way.

The first pic is @TidalPompano527 who I saw with the wrong livery, but at least the balloon wasn’t rendered as a 787 or something like that:

Next two pics, @BlueStarLine15 and me are researching The Central Parking Spot.

Was nice to fly over New York and appreciate the details, unfortunately I could not stay for the entire flight
