Location and August 17 being Indonesia Independence Day. Of course in modern times you’ll see a lot of airliners going in/out. My comments really stem from the community team could have put a bit more thought into why they choose to do this event at this time. There’s no reason for a long cruise over the whole island, I’m expecting it to get a bit samey after a while anyway.
The standard 120 knots would have given everyone a wider choice of more suitable aircraft as I stated even if it meant less distance was covered.
@SteveW3647 those aircraft were mentioned in context to their historical significance as they were used as part of the Indonesian air force at the time of original event (based on my none professional research). Wasn’t to imply players had to use them but for those who do it would have been a more considerate thought from the community managers.
Bit like we do here in the UK with the Memorial flights than involve both modern and vintage aircraft, sure you’ve seen that on TV at some point.
But as I said I’m done. Managers have responded and hope this is taken on board for future events, just a little bit more thought would have avoided the whole discussion.
Some of the best group flights we’ve had is where someone from the region has given some background information on the place we were flying. The best one I can think of was over Australia, where we went out to visit a diamond mine, among other places.
Having that local knowledge helped flesh out the flight somehow, like a tour guide of sorts.
The Caravan would have been appropriate. They went faster than stated too. I took a Cessna 172 Skyhawk and wasn’t able to keep up. Very often they go faster than stated.
Today I’ll be using the P-38. It’s faster than the TBM, one of the recommended aircraft, so hopefully keeping up won’t be an issue even tho it can’t quite do 300 over the ground at lower altitudes. Neither can either the default turbo probs though.
I was very happy to see a community flight in Indonesia! There is no better way to celebrate three years of MSFS than with such a wonderful community flight. The free Indonesia add-on I mentioned, that includes the Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue, can be found here: Wonderful Indonesia Scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator | MSFS
