[Official] Community Fly-In Friday: Jordan

We will be hosting an Official Fly-in alongside a group of community members (you!) on Twitch. This is an open event, free to all who would like to fly along with us and available to pilots of all skill levels. The goal is to have a great time, explore new locations of the world, and make new friends. This event is open to pilots on both the PC and Xbox platforms.

FLIGHT DETAILS

May 25 is Jordan’s Independence Day! In recognition of this holiday, our fly-in this week will be a scenic tour of this Middle Eastern country departing from the capital city of Amman then continuing southbound along the Dead Sea. Our full-stop landing will be at Aqaba, a popular tourist destination.

The flight will include a flyover of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Petra. For those of you playing on PC, we recommend downloading a freeware addon created by @Jeppeson2001 that adds several hand-crafted POIs around Petra. The mod is available here.

We will be starting at OJAM. Please load your aircraft 10 minutes prior to take off and taxi over to the runway in preparation for departure.

AIRCRAFT

Recommended aircraft: Cessna 172, Pipistrel Virus, CubCrafters X or NX Cub, or any plane of your choice that can maintain a cruise speed of around 120 knots.

MULTIPLAYER SETTINGS

Please adhere to the following settings so you can see everyone / be seen by everyone.

Variable	Setting
Server	SE Asia
Multiplayer	All Players
Live traffic	As preferred
Weather	Few Clouds
Time of Day	Daytime

It is advised in this flight to turn off both aircraft collisions and terrain collisions. If you do crash, you can use “slew” mode to join the pack. If the pack will be too scattered before the first stop, we will use slew on a defined point to regroup.

COMMUNICATION

To communicate with others, a voice channel on the "Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Discord” at https://discord.gg/msfs will be available to join.

Just wondering if you XBOX/Cloud pilots will be entering all 44 waypoints manually, or is it just me?

Canadian pilot in a Swiss aircraft with an Australian livery flying in Jordan. I haven’t been to a lot of these community events yet (maybe 4 or 5) but I think this was my favourite so far. Beautiful!

This was my first community fly-in. I’m in Canada so the start times for these usually don’t work for me, but I was on vacation this week.

It was pretty cool! I used the TBM 930 because it’s what I’ve been learning to fly the past few months. It was a good thing I did have an aircraft that was faster than the recommendations, because it allowed me to get back to the pack easily if I strayed off course. And that happened quite a bit, because I am on Xbox and while I am appreciative of the abbreviated flight plan that hobanagerik posted, following it would have put me far away from the pack. I used heading mode a lot, just so I could adjust and then sit back a little bit and enjoy the views.

I hope it’s alright I ask a couple quick Qs:

1. Does anyone know how to turn off the audible traffic warning on the TBM? Had that going off quite a bit on this flight.

2. At the end of the vid is an ATR that is flying underneath me, but it shows up as a default airliner. Is that because I do not own the ATR, or is this an Xbox limitation?

Hello! You can set your TCAS to Standby and you’ll stop hearing the Traffic noises

This is due to you not owning the ATR, so therefore it’s a default airliner

Great event, thanks! What a beautiful scenery! I had such a slow aircraft though so I did a short cut and skipped OJ39 but in the middle of the dessert I found some strange symbols on the ground! Could it be some text? I took a screen shot from the cockpit:

I have managed to find the coordinates for these symbols on the Bing Map:
30,373157, 35,931697. Are they just random stuff or could it be some Arabic text?

yes this is Arabic text, I speak Arabic but I can’t read it, I guess the bottom word is Tools in Arabic language…but for sure this is not an alien craft made: -)
