[Official] Community Fly-In Friday: Malaysia

We will be hosting an Official Fly-in alongside a group of community members (you!) on Twitch. This is an open event, free to all who would like to fly along with us and available to pilots of all skill levels. The goal is to have a great time, explore new locations of the world, and make new friends. This event is open to pilots on both the PC and Xbox platforms.

Hosted by @SeedyL3205
When: Friday, September 1 @ 1800Z for two hours.
Where: The Official Twitch Channel of MSFS

There will also be a Discord event channel open for those who want to voice chat with other members of the community.

Please see below for details on the upcoming Fly-In Event:

To celebrate Malaysia’s :malaysia: Independence Day of August 31 (known locally as Hari Merdeka), this week our Community Fly-In will be to this beautiful country in Southeast Asia. We will depart from the capital city of Kuala Lumpur, home to the renowned Petronas Twin Towers and the recently-completed Merdeka 118, the second-tallest building in the world (after Dubai’s Burj Khalifa). From KL, we will fly along a generally northbound heading to Penang, one of Malaysia’s top tourist destinations and a region known internationally for its delectable cuisine.

Pilots on PC can download the .pln file below:

We will be starting at WMKK. Please load your aircraft 10 minutes prior to take off and taxi over to the runway in preparation for departure.

Recommended aircraft: Cessna 172, CubCrafters X or NX Cub, Pipistrel Virus, or any other plane of your choice that can maintain a cruising speed of 120 knots.

Please adhere to the following settings so you can see everyone / be seen by everyone.

It is advised in this flight to turn off both aircraft collisions and terrain collisions. If you do crash, you can use “slew” mode to join the pack. If the pack will be too scattered before the first stop, we will use slew on a defined point to regroup.

To communicate with others, a voice channel on the "Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Discord” at https://discord.gg/msfs will be available to join.

This is meant to be a fun and informal flight. Everybody is welcome, no matter the amount of experience.

Ah, the tradition continues – discussion of food during the Fly-In!

As a total “foodie”, I’m all in with these discussion points.

[Mod edit: please do not ping the Community Managers] could we get a bit more variety in the event used to justify the location for the community fly-ins. This is the 3rd Independence Day event in a row (Indonesia, Uruquay and now Malaysia).

I’m sure this event is important to some but a quick search will show other interesting aviation and general history events to spice things up.

The scenery is a bit repetitive too.

Looking forward to fly again with you lot after much needed holiday.
Here is the flight plan in text format (not only) for XBOX / Cloud pilots.

Ah Thank you, I will take and fly my little Cessna 172 of my beginnings :grinning:

I’m In for the Fly-In !

Can you please just advise what is the easiest way to use the attached flightplan into MSFS Cessna 172 ?
Thanks !

It might be quicker if you just supplied a list of flights you are interested in.

Not at all, I have nothing against the specific flyin. Just they need to shake up the historical events a bit.

There are plenty of other aviation/historical events they could have choose, just not another Independence Day.

Maybe I’m just not nationalist enough.

Thank you again for another great Fly-In!

The ducks were the best.

Next week…

Great event as usual, thanks everyone. This was once more in a place I had not explored before, that’s always a nice bonus.

Special thanks to Pieter for the helicopter filming at the end of the stream. (Yes, I’m biased, and shamelessly so.)

Community Fly-In Friday: Malaysia - YouTube

Meant to post these earlier but for anyone looking through the archives, I had a good time taking the Stearman through Malaysia. It was a handful but totally worth it. Phenomenal scenery and good looking weather.
