REALLY nice VR setup like that. I almost fly exclusively in VR (primarily helicopters like 125 and 145. But also Taog’s hangar Alouette etc), except when during streams.
Very nice to have the stream on the overhead panel. I never really understood the hype about Virtual Desktop until I actually bought it. It’s so much superior compared to the native streaming solution.
Thanks Now everybody knows how ■■■■■■ I land (In my defense, my rudder wasn’t neutral and didn’t have rudder pedals connected)
Yeah, VD was the best 20€ I spent on software ever. And I use it since Quest 1 days, when it still was called an oculus quest.
I also exclusively fly VR by now with an 6 DOF motion rig. I use a monitor and a simple joystick only when I quickly want to test something.
Also found myself flying choppers more than planes for some time now ( especially agricultural applications and SAR missions in career), so ordered a collective from virpil last week.
That weren’t bad landings considering a rudder failure.
Yes, the VRPL collective is a must have!
Along with a MOZA FFB base for a cyclic it makes an awesome heli sim. Which kind of motion rig do you use? I’m on the fence for one, but still can’t justify the investment, which is substantial of you want a proper one.
I got an DOF Reality H6. Was on the fence for a couple months, but pulled the trigger on Black Friday last year. It came just before christmas.
I suggest watching the build up videos and/or reading the building instructions for the rig you want to use before buying it.
Had some noise problems with it, but was able to fix them. Also don’t use the usb-cables it comes with, they’re rubbish. I used ones with a ferrit core attached, that solved some connection problems.
I use an active 5m USB3 extension cable from my pc to a 11 port usb hub on the side of the seat where the rig and all the controls are connected to. I can power each port on the hub with switches individually.
I was also worried about motion compensation in VR, but this practically a non-issue for me as your head position doesn’t move that much actually, as the rig has just around 17° on pitch and roll. That does not sound like much, but believe me, it’s more than enough.
You also might need to get creative on the mounting of the controls or other peripherals. They have a basic HOTAS attachment kit (cost extra), but that didn’t fit my purpose for the stick as I use an extension tube.
If I use a flight simulator in VR and the rig is off, it feels weird to me now, LOL.
