FLIGHT DETAILS

September 20 is recognized as Constitution Day in Nepal! :nepal: This relatively new public holiday celebrates the adoption of the country’s current constitution in 2015. For our Community Fly-In this week, we’ll be touring some beautiful Nepalese scenery in and around the Himalayas including the capital city of Kathmandu and Mount Everest! :mountain_snow: Finally, our full-stop landing will be at Lukla (VNLK), one of the most exciting and challenging airports in the world!

Pilots on PC can download the .pln file below:
2023-09-22 Nepal.PLN (2.8 KB)

We will be starting at VNPK. Please load your aircraft 10 minutes prior to take off and taxi over to the runway in preparation for departure.

AIRCRAFT

Recommended aircraft: Cessna Grand Caravan, Cessna 172, CubCrafters X or NX Cub, Pipistrel Virus, or any other plane of your choice that can maintain a cruising speed of about 120 knots or greater. :bangbang: Note that portions of this flight will take place in mountainous terrain at high elevations above sea level, so you may wish to choose an aircraft with a high service ceiling, especially if you’d like to climb higher than the summit of Mount Everest (29,029 feet / 8,848 meters). :bangbang:

MULTIPLAYER SETTINGS

Please adhere to the following settings so you can see everyone / be seen by everyone.

Variable Setting
Server SE Asia
Multiplayer All Players
Live traffic As preferred
Weather Few Clouds
Time of Day Daytime

It is advised in this flight to turn off both aircraft collisions and terrain collisions. If you do crash, you can use “slew” mode to join the pack. If the pack will be too scattered before the first stop, we will use slew on a defined point to regroup.

COMMUNICATION

To communicate with others, a voice channel on the "Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Discord” at https://discord.gg/msfs will be available to join.

LET’S FLY

This is meant to be a fun and informal flight. Everybody is welcome, no matter the amount of experience.

Did the flight, it was nice and challenging… However in my AP’s defense earlier in the day I decided to do the Vampire Hunter flight mentioned on this site, he was doing well in that then crashed. I guess a Vampire got to him.

I think he was still feeling the effects of the bite because at the start he kept wanting to dive-bomb a mountain after he got straightened out that was short-lived:

I downloaded and reviewed the flight plan in the world map. In the map there is the dreaded leg to the north pole and back. Have I something set wrong in my sim?

Hello @NonstopOyster0,

This is a known issue if you have Navigraph installed. If you wish to use the .pln file, you can temporarily disable Navigraph and it will then work properly.

Thanks,
MSFS Team

Thanks, I thought this problem had been fixed by Navigraph. I only use it to keep the Airac cycles current and don’t use the charts in the sim. BTW, is there a way to know what Airac cycle is in the sim?

Very much looking forward to it as well
Will I be able to join with xbox cloud gaming as well?

You can join with Xbox Cloud. Make sure your multiplayer settings are set as described above. You’ll have to put the flight plan in manually. My earlier post should help. Just create it by searching the waypoints or gps coordinates.

Thank you for a beautiful flight today!

I nearly made it to the peak of Everest in the Staggerwing, and it was a gem to land at Lukla!

I’ll be pouring lots of coffee next week.

This was an awesome one, top 3 for me for sure, I had a great time! Thanks again all!
I made it to 27,000 ft at Everest, probably could have made it but it was taking too long at 50fpm, fighting the mushy controls and stall horn. Steep dive to Lukla and joined the group, making the tight space look like Oshkosh.

Had to drop my cargo, my copilot and most of my fuel, but I got to 29.500ft and over Mount Everest with the Kodiak. The stream was already finished when i crossed the peak.
