FLIGHT DETAILS

Do you feel the need for speed? The Top Gun: Maverick expansion is available now as a free download from the in-sim Marketplace! To celebrate the release of this DLC and the new Top Gun film in cinemas, this week’s Community Fly-In Friday will see us flying F/A-18 Super Hornets departing from Miramar, performing a touch & go landing at Edwards AFB, flying through the Rainbow Canyon (aka Star Wars Canyon), then continuing on to a full stop landing at Las Vegas.

Pilots on PC can download the .pln file here:

I have cracked open the flight plan and have laid out the waypoints for any Xbox pilots who want to recreate this plan for themselves. 43 waypoints! Remember that you will need to input the Departure and Arrival airports first, then you can add the other waypoints to the plan. You can input the decimal LAT and LONG into the search bar on the left to get the custom waypoint you can add to the plan. You can search for the named POIs using the same search box. You can adjust the cruising alt by hitting the NAV LOG button on the top right under the flight conditions box.

There has to be a simpler way to do this. Not fair to XBOX flyers.

Agreed, this takes a lifetime to input the flight plan!

I was excited to do this fly-in but man the default FA 18 needs some work.

Only 14 waypoints actually load into the aircraft when you use the flight plan downloaded from here.

I wish I would have known I needed to input all the rest manually. Also, being on the Asian server with a higher ping, aircraft would blink on and blink off for a good portion of the flight. So only 14 waypoints coupled with people flashing on and off periodically at random resulted in not being able to follow any of it properly.

I hope that can be addressed.

That happened to one of the hosts. I don’t think it is intentional that only 14 waypoints load in as some loaded the full flight plan while others didn’t.

@WheeledWeevil13 was good to see you during the event yesterday, nice flying!

@akfouronesix You as well! It was cool to see a familiar name at the event. It was fun!
