[Official] Community Fly-In Friday: Valentine's Day in the City of Love

We will be hosting an Official Fly-in alongside a group of community members (you!) on Twitch. This is an open event, free to all who would like to fly along with us and available to pilots of all skill levels. The goal is to have a great time, explore new locations of the world, and make new friends. This event is open to pilots on both sim versions (MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024) and both the PC and Xbox platforms.

FLIGHT DETAILS

February 14th is Valentine’s Day, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than with a flight over romantic Paris, known throughout the world as the “City of Love”!

Hop in any aircraft of your choice, start at LFPG, and let’s explore this picturesque and historic European capital together!

We will be starting at LFPG. Please load your aircraft 10 minutes prior to take off and taxi over to the runway in preparation for departure.

AIRCRAFT

Recommended aircraft: no recommended aircraft this week as we’re just flying over a single city, but if you really want to capitalize on the romantic themes of a flight over Paris, perhaps consider a hot air balloon.

I had quite a few wardrobe changes on this flight, enjoyed exploring with the H500C and then decided to jump into Dehavilland DHC1 Chipmunk, which is when I got the chance to see this attempt at recreating a Zeppelin docking with the Eiffel tower… maybe? Very good!

And then I had to take this recently purchased beauty for some exploration around Paris

At least the nose gunner gets a gorgeous panoramic view. (No, we did not fit underneath it )

A nice Flyday again. I set the clock to 12 hours past real time and started out at dawn. I flew the XCub with floats today, a plane I flew quite a lot in FS20, but had not yet flown in FS24.

I kept crashing it too often, for trying helicopter things or just being plain stupid, so for the last 45 minutes or so I changed to the Huey, because it’s better at helicopter things and doesn’t have a gear that stupid people may or may not forget to extend. (Those floats are surprisingly sturdy, but ouch!)

Question: can we float under photogrammetry structures?

The answers are: no, no, and also no.

Since there was no cruising speed requirement this occasion and usually it would be too slow for fly-ins, it was a good time to dust off the Tri-motor and take it for a spin. I decided to end the flight at Le Bourget as those ESA rockets looked quite interesting.
