Official landmarks missing when WU packages are downloaded/installed

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: I have downloaded all the world updates and disabled photogrammetry, then I found many official landmarks have disappeared—including those from the base game and world updates, this happened in the pyramids of Cairo and the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro for me. I’ve heard this is caused by photogrammetry, someone said they disappear completely if you turn photogrammetry off. (However, even the photogrammetry enabled, it is a photogrammetry version models not the previously handcrafted 3D models.)

Edit: I did a more deep testing, then I found that the issue arose after downloading and installing all content to the device. Since I had downloaded the content around the time of SU3, I suspect that subsequent update SU4/5 caused some form of data broken. The problem was resolved both by switching to streaming and by doing a complete re-download the content. Therefore, I believe this is a bug related to file updates, players using streaming likely won’t encounter this issue, whereas those who choose to download files locally should completely delete all existing files before downloading again to ensure a clean update. (btw, this doesn’t seem to be related to photogrammetry, it is primarily caused by local downloading and data updates.)

Coordinate or location of issue: I found in Cairo and Rio de Janeiro, but I believe there are more in other place of the world.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

Every time.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Assume you downloaded all the content Includes the base game and all World Updates to your device on a version prior to SU4/5.

  2. Update them in My Library.

  3. Whether you are viewing on the Earth from the main menu or flying over it, you will see the handcrafted 3D models disappear.

MEDIA

Please add a screenshot or video of the issue occurring.

I have removed the Community folder, deleted the rolling cache, and installed all World Updates and City Updates, yet many buildings are still missing. I just found that the Eiffel Tower has disappeared as well, and I believe there are more instances of this happening around the world.

Turn on photogrammetry - apply and save.
Quit to desktop.

Launch MSFS 2024

I prefer not to enable photogrammetry due to some network issues, and photogrammetry isn’t available for many areas—like Cairo. so even if you did turn it on, the pyramids would still be missing. Furthermore under normal circumstances, these handcrafted 3D landmark models should not disappear even when photogrammetry is enabled.

For watching Eiffel tower and other landmarks you need to activate in MSFS2024 the Update IV: France/Benelux

Yes, sure I installed all the World Updates.

I did a more deep testing, then I found that the issue arose after downloading and installing all content to the device.

Also, this issue seems to cause the POI tags to disappear along with the 3D model. I noticed that the POI tag for the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro is back, but the 3D model of the statue still missing. I suspect this is another different and isolated bug.

I would recommend to update the “Reproduction Steps” section adding an initial step where user must download and install the World Updates and another step to disable the photogrammetry (if I understood correctly) in order to replicate the issue.

Thank you for the suggestion! I’ve edited it. also, after testing, I believe this bug is not caused by photogrammetry, it is likely by local installation and data update.

is there a solution to this issue of official landmarks missing (not all, some like the eifel tower, the atomium, etc are missing). I tried all proposed remedies on this forum but can’t solve the problem. I am streaming, deleted caches, etc.

Wait for Asobo’s Engine Fix

Because this has been upvoted and classified as a trending issue under the MSFS Bug Reporting Hub, Asobo must deploy a client-side update or a hotfix to repair the package hierarchy mapping. There is nothing more you can do on your drive to force the simulator to read those local landmark coordinates properly.

oh, even if you are streaming, the landmarks still missing?

in my testing, this happened because some previously downloaded cache files were not removed, if you are on pc, you can try delete all files in: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

it works for me

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming: no files in “roaming” that are related to MSFS2024. What am I missing?

The Roaming folder contains some MSFS 2024 files and cache data for the Steam version. You most likely have the MS Store version, so you should look in
c:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\

tx. do you say I have to delete the entire content of the local cache, or only the “SceneryIndexes” which are *.dat files (1640 files of which the majority is still msfs2020 dated)

i deleted content of “sceneryindexes”: no change

I don’t have this issue myself, but if I did, I would delete the contents of the SceneryIndexes, PC, and cache folders.

I would also delete the rollingcache file and then increase the rollingcache size in MSFS 2024 after launching the sim again.

Oh! I hadn’t thought of that, I’m playing on steam

I’m not sure which file was causing the issue, so what I did was delete all the files in “roaming” and re-download all installed content (or you could simply use streaming mode, then problem should be fixed).

Tx. Did all of that meanwhile. rolling cache is empty with 100GB set. Still nothing…
