A worthwhile plug! I tried it in X-plane. I keep meaning to try it in FS too.

Heaven forbid!

Excellent! Don’t forget there’s a free demo

Sorry to hear your not feeling well Looking forward to your return

Hi there! Do we need to have been at any of the previous lessons to participate?

Hi!

Today’s lesson has been cancelled out of respect for the tragic events that have taken place in the United States this morning.

Both Forder and I are sad we won’t get to fly together today, but we are rescheduling our next lesson, Crosswinds, for March 24th! We hope you can make it and apologize for the last minute change of plans.

Don“t worry, just join in, whenever you can.

As any training, this one builds up skills step by step. If you know about the topic of a lesson already, you could skip it. On the other hand, i have to say, that even seasoned flight simmers can learn one or the other detail in every lesson. It“s fun to watch, as we perform better and better week by week, too.

So, i would recommend, watching them all. You may wanna ā€œfast forwardā€ some things occasionally like preflight check or a technical ingame issue, but even this is nice to watch. Repeating procedures never hurts.

Hi Forder!

I’m a newcomer to flight sim and loved your first lesson, so will enjoy doing this series. I’ve seen your courses on Udemy and the content looks excellent and perfect for me. I’ve noticed that unlike all the other courses yours never go on sale though but remain at Ā£49.99, I’ve seen all the other aviation courses at Ā£13.99.

So I wanted to know if your courses ever go on sale, and if you recommend buying them if I’m already doing this course?
I know the Udemy courses are the old Flight Simulator, does that matter, and are you planning to produce new courses for MSFS 2020?

If they were Ā£13.99 each I’d buy them all instantly, but for Ā£49.99 each and not being based on the older sim version I’m hesitent, especially if I will learn most of the same stuff in this course?

Your content quality is superb though, very clear to follow and slow paced enough that I’m not overwhelmed!

Thanks for your comments @Kjaye767 . I appreciate it. Yes, other courses are cheaper and their purpose is to get quantity. Without lowering prices to entice buyers to jump in, I want the serious students who really want to fly. Each course takes about four months to produce and should cost more than what I have priced them. There is no need to put something on sale if it sells well. I have over 250 students with Udemy and over 2250 students with Skillshare. I am still holding a near perfect score on the beginner course and perfect scores in reviews on the intermediate and advanced.

That is not bragging. Simply showing that there is not need to reduce a course to peanuts if it is quality value and usefullness. Way too many courses are 10 or 15 dollars and that is rediculous for the knowledge and sheer number of hours of production it takes to make them. They should be priced higher.

Now for the refresh. Although all flying skills are the same no matter what the simulator, I am in the process… two months in now, of refreshing the courses for this new simulator. The holdup was REPLAY. All angles and analysis in the course require replay function, which was there in FSX and Xplane. Now that Hy has made the Flight Recorder, I can stop action and analysis of flight attitudes and move forward with refreshing my courses.
Same skills… better scenery. And in VFR flight, which all pilots start out with, better scenery and realistic scenery is a must. When navigating your way back to your airport, you recognize rivers, lakes, shopping malls and railroad tracks. Now they are as real as real life. So that is why all my efforts to refresh the courses.

As a final note, all subscribers to my channel get discounts on my Udemy courses and level 3 subscribers get all three courses for free, plus live check-rides with me. Makes it worth it.
Wishing you fair winds and blue skies,
Be safe,
-Howard

Thanks for the extensive reply Howard. I’ve just seen your courses are also on Skillshare, which I haven’t used before but am happy to join for a couple months to watch through them. I think they will really help start me off on the right track, and then can purchase the new courses with MSFS 2020 when they are ready.

I watched a preview of a level on skillshare and your were talking about the lights, strobe, beacon etc pointing out exactly where they are on the plane and what they are for, which is exactly the level of instruction I’m looking for. I can’t wait to get started on them.

When you say your channel, what channel are you referring to? I went on your Youtube channel but couldn’t find any links to membership levels.

I believe Forder is referring to his Twitch channel, found here:

Hi @Jummivana @HowardElvis

These lessons have been a great resource for learning. Thanks for all the effort put here.

I got a question about lesson 7 crosswind: how can I configure the winds on MSFS for this lesson? I’m struggling to understand if that’s part of the lesson or part of the material -OR- are we just ā€œimaginingā€ that there are winds for the purposes of demonstration?

In addition I have a suggestion for all lessons: could you guys maybe add a super quick one about the initial config for the practice: such as, we are departing from Parking X or ramp Y, etc, so that we can follow the practice exactly as you a are demoing (specially for taxing).

Many thanks!

Hi @Larrydeclay . Thanks for the kind words. The winds are configured by using your game-bar menu at the top of your screen and selecting the cloud icon. There, you can select preset weather like clear sky or a few clouds, but you will also notice the winds in the lower left corner. Here is a snapshot:

That is the setting Jayne and I used to give us a direct crosswind on runway 33/15. When determining where to put the winds, just look at your heading indicator, imagine a line through the 15/33 headings and look directly right or left. That is how we determined 60 degrees. You will also notice we moved the gusts to zero. That is a real challenge to handle maximum crosswind PLUS gusts. A final note, when you get your winds set, use the lower left ā€œAdd Wind Layerā€ to drag copies to all the levels right up to circuit height so the winds are the same in the circuit

Hi Howard,

This is very interesting and much appreciated by many others, too, I’m sure.

Just a general comment:
This amazing and sophisticated functionality is built right into MSFS, and is not just an optional feature. As I recall, FSX never had this degree of capability without installing add-ons like ā€œActive Sky-Nextā€, etc.
Did it?

Following you and Jayne’s lessons but am behind some. Found my C152 direction indicator does not have a heading bug like yours. Do you know why? Also following on the Udemy lessons. Both great.

MSFS C152 unfortunately has no heading bug.

If you see a bug, it might be taken from a C172.
