Offline play not available?

I need help to play MSFS2020 whilst I am offline.

I recently purchased a new MSI gaming laptop to use with MSFS2020, purchased MSFS2020 through the MSStore, downloaded all updates and addons, played the game a few times to get used to it.

I only have internet access whilst at my place of work, (which is where I have downloaded the game for the last 24 hrs) I live on a boat where I can not get wifi and my mobile phone will not get signal either so can not use my phone as a hotspot. I thought I could play the game offline using the instructions listed below, but it is still asking for the game disk when i am at home on the boat.

Instructions for offline play—

If you’re planning on playing offline, you’ll need to prepare your Windows 10/11 device while you have an online connection. It’s important that you do this while you’re online, as once you go offline, you won’t be able to make these changes.

Note You can only change your designated offline device three times per year.

Prepare your device

If you have multiple Windows 10/11 devices, you’ll need to make sure that the device you intend to use offline is set as the designated offline device. You can only have one device as your designated offline device.

To set your device as your designated offline device:

  1. Make sure that you’re online.
  2. Check that your device has the latest Windows updates: Go to Start  > Settings > Update & security > Windows Update and see if any relevant updates are available.
  3. Open the Microsoft Store. You’ll be prompted to sign in if you haven’t already.
  4. Select your profile icon in the upper right corner.
  5. Select App settings, and then under Offline permissions, make sure that the toggle is set to On.

Once you set this, any devices previously designated as offline will be toggled to Off, and you’ll no longer be able to play games offline on those devices.

Prepare your game or games

Once your device is set up, you’ll need to launch each game you want to play offline while signed in to the Xbox network. You only need to do this once per game, and you’ll need to do this even if you’ve already launched the game on your device.

  1. Make sure that you’re online, and that your device is set as your designated offline device. (See the steps above for details on how to do this.)
  2. Launch the game you want to play offline. When prompted, sign in to Xbox.
  3. Once you’ve started playing the game, you can exit at any time.

Repeat this process for each game you want to play offline. Once completed, you can go offline at any time and launch those games whenever you want to play them, without needing to sign in online each time.

Do you have the game in steam?

No, I purchased through the MSStore, i followed the instructions in my previous post many times

Since the scenery takes pentabytes of online data, I don’t see how offline play is even possible. Do you have to cache the desired scenery while online so it’s available offline? PS, I’ve never understood how offline play can work.

MSFS is not a really good choice for offline play - MSFS depends on online connectivity to download and stream the scenery data - offline mode is a fallback solution and will revert back to a very basic scenery.
As already mentioned above - the world scenery of MSFS is over 3 Petabytes - that are 3000 terabytes… so you can’t use MSFS effectively offline - it is an inherent online software unfortunately. For you usecase it is not a good choice :man_shrugging:

It should start without internet connection though. At least the steam version does :man_shrugging:
Make sure that you start the sim with online connectivity at least once …

I understand the issues about connectivity whilst online, I would be prepared to go without these options when playing from my home.

The ONLY issue i have is to get the game to LAUNCH without internet. It just asks for the game disk and will not open so i can not use it at all.
