Hi All !! I am back (least for a brief moment of 2+ months).

Quick flashback 2yrs ago hit problem during SU5 that prevented me from downloading ANY updates with no solutions, I just quit on that setup.

Fast forward to March 2022, I bought a gaming laptop (ROG Strix SCAR, 12900H, RTX3070ti, 32Gig DDR5), installed FS2020, went smoothly and enjoyed it almost everyday.

Fast forward May 2022, I built a new Desktop PC (12700K, RTX3080, 32Gig DDR4, Win 11 Home, 2TB M.2 SSD). Installed FS2020, went smoothly and enjoyed it almost everyday.

I have the latest sim build, with a few 3rd party addons like FBW, A32NX and a few freeware and payware airports in my locality.

All went so perfectly well until today. No Win or any Driver updates, no new app installed, just launched the sim normally. Splash screens as usual, until the TopGun Maverick screen, with those New Activities boxes. When blue progress bar is about to reach the end, Boom sim crashes to desktop.

Removed Community folder, Tried to launch again, prompted that last session ended abnormally, chose SAFE MODE. Sim is “checking for updates” then went on to the TOP GUN Mav screen
 same thing!

Reboot PC, unhooked any unneeded devices, launch sim, same thing.

Went back to my Laptop, launch sim and is OK.

What could be the problem?

Thanks in advance,
santi

Hello @CrabbyRobin33 .
The topic was moved to #self-service:install-performance-graphics to help with finding a solution.

You said you have disconnected unrelated peripherals.
Can you try to disconnect everything except mouse and keyboard?
You said you emptied your community folder?
In that case, can you try to remove the exe.xml and content.xml (Back them up first!) before launching and see if that helps?

when I said ‘unrelated peripherals’, yes ALL except keyboard and mouse.

where is that exe.xml located? I only see content.xml

Game mode and hags off. Turn off any third party antivirus for a quick test. Try the memory leak fix and increase paging file size maybe.

I run a 12700k and 3080 both oc and haven’t had any problems since turning off HAGS. I forgot it was even on.

done this done that
sim was running fine for almost a month on this pc.

Have you checked the MS store for an update on Gaming Services?

Is there an update then?

I have been getting a CTD today too even though the sim was working fine yesterday. The CTD began after I uninstalled Orbx mesh to see if that resolved a terrain issue I was having with the Dear Airport scenery. I have reinstalled the Orbx mesh but I am still getting a CTD. No peripherals or programs etc have been added so am a loss why this is happening? Any thoughts appreciated.

Guys, I have found the culprit !! I wasted 6+ hours reinstalling FS2020 only to find out it still wont launch.

And then I reviewed my background apps once again and found the cause.

It’s the OVR service launcher in the background. There are three of these - all Oculus related background apps. If you happen to own an Oculus headset and have these in the background, kill them all and try launching the sim. To stop it from auto running, go to Services, scroll down until you see Occulus VR service launcher, right click, properties, set it to Manual.

Please note I use Quest 2 so these apps were there since day 1 of this PC but the sim was running well. I assume there could be auto updates yesterday on these apps that may have caused the problem with the sim.

Hope it helps. Sim runs OK now. Just have to reinstall the add-ons and all the rest of the World updates, arrgh.
