So I’m wondering why almost none of the plane doors open…but you can with the TBM mod? Very puzzling.
If a mod can open the TBM doors, are all default planes able to have their doors opened if a mod tries it?

The JPLogistics mod allows you to open the doors on the 152 as well.
Allot of payware planes have this functionality but make sure you turn off stresses. Opening the doors (such as the skydive door in the Kodiak) will result in a plane crash.
I’ve never actually flown the 152. Too small for my taste. But that makes the total 2 default planes that can open their doors.
Why these two and why not others? This is a mystery I want to get to the bottom of
The sales pitch text in the Marketplace for the Junkers Ju 52 says it has opening cabin doors, yet I’ve not been able to open them.
The Carenado C170B and YMF5 both have opening doors.
Other aircraft that have opening doors have that functionality tied to their tablet, such as with the DC-6 and EMB-110.
I find it very annoying, that in the JPL 152 you always have to close the open doors first when in cold & dark. It was funny the first time, but after a short while I got tired of it. I want to fly, not play with doors. I could do without that feature.
If you are using the default aircraft, there is this tool.
Although it states it hasn’t been tested with the latest MSFS version, it works well for me.
closing doors are a big part of flying irl my friend. in fact if you don’t close them well you’ll find out soon enough on takeoff. happened to me on my first solo
Look at the 737 that had to return to the field for exactly that reason a couple days ago.
Ok, I agree. It’s january.
“MSFS Door Tool” conjures up an image of a lightweight prybar for getting these recalcitrant doors open!
A Ford “wrench”…
So I have the fantastic TBM 930 which allows you to open all of the doors. The TBM is a base MSFS2020 plane.
How come this plane can have the doors open, but most cannot? I’ve been confused as to why this plane can open doors but the Caravan mod cannot.
Anyone know?
There’s a lengthy discussion on the wish list item post for this.
I know opening doors is a wishlist. But my post is why can the TBM open doors? This looks like a built-in animation.
Why TBM and no others? Did Asobo do this?
Because the TBM is the only model that anyone has found that has the doors built into the model as separate entities. You can search through the .gltf files yourself for references to doors and canopies.
I believe the original intention was to include doors, etc., but, somewhere along the way they decided not to, likely because they realized they didn’t have to resources to do the necessary work in their timeline, and it meant they could develop more planes, instead of just a few really good planes.
ah ok see that’s what I was deducing in my head as it doesn’t make sense why some of the Asobo planes have working doors and some don’t, but then only accessible from a mod. It’s a strange thing. thanks for confirming
I highly recommend the Kodiak 100, as it has working doors. The cartoon characters that appear when you add weight to the seats are annoying, so I always fly cargo versions.
You can spend hours doing nothing but opening the doors, compartments, access panels, etc. with the Cessna 414. Also a recommendation.
Must use the cupholders in the Kodiak. I play with a 55" a couple inches from the yoke so I always put my diet coke there next to it
