ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

When Flight Sim 2024 tries to load, the opening video Routine is causes excessive CPU Usage and GPU Usage, Causing the Game to not load for a bunch of users.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

Yes, Even from a Clean Install, the issue is there.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

Every time you load

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Just Start the Sim
  2. Check Task Manager on Older CPU’s (I5 7600k)
  3. You will See, Game is Tanking the CPU at 100% and GPU at 54%

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are you using, if relevant:

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?

NO

[PC, MSFS 2020 Only] Are you using DX11 or DX12?

[PC Only] Many issues may be due to an outdated graphics card. Please state your Graphics Card Driver Manufacturer (NVIDIA, Intel, AMD) and Version:

Nvidia 572.42 on a RTX 4060

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?

I5 7600k 32gb Ram, RTX 4060, Sim installed to M2 on C: Drive

MORE INFORMATION: If We use Riva Tuner and Limit the Frame Rate to 30FPS, We can get the Sim to load in 2 Minutes. Once the Frame Rate is limited, CPU Usage drops to 70% and GPU Usage to 27%. This points to the problem being with the Opening Video Loading Routine hogging too much resources. This obviously is not a problem for those with later CPU’s, but for us with older CPU’s, it’s causing the game to not load.

Please add a screenshot or video of the issue occurring.

Yes, on every load attempt

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
I5 6400k, 32GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 with 16GB memory; the behaviour is the very same and the “RivaTuner trick” works each and every time. After the game starts, the performance is very good (considering the system specs, even at higher quality settings).

Not relevant

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• Exactly the same issue

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• CPU: i5 6600K @ 3.5GHz, GPU: RTX4060, 16GB RAM, WIndows 10, game running from XBox App, when it loads the game runs fine

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

i7-14700K CPU, 64 GB RAM
AMD RX 7900 XTX GPU
INTEL A770 LE 16 GB GPU

All have this same problem.
FS2024 will not load.

Re-installed FS2024.
Re-installed Windows 11.

Was considering a full format of drives and new installs
but decided to try FS2020.

It runs perfectly. (but not as pretty)

Will try FS2024 after the next update.

Wow that’s insane, was not aware that the unnecessary loading video can cause the game to not even load for some ppl.
I am not affected, but still voted because it’s clear that the intro needs to be removed. They should have done that in the first patch after release already in my opinion.
Even with higher end equipment (5800X3D, 7900XTX) the intro is just a ugly stuttering mess. Amazing how they could have found this a good idea…
It should just be replaced by a nice static loading screen immediately!

Solidarity vote here. Don’t really fly FS24 as it doesn’t fit for my purpose/usage, but I agree it’s an unnecessary eye candy which lagging up during load (9800x3d, m.2 here). The design decisions with this latest release is just unbelievable

How do you know it’s anything to do with the video itself as opposed to what’s happening in the background network/downloading/decompressing etc.? The video playback suffers as well.

There are mods to replace the video, I doubt they make any difference to the issue you are getting.

Ok. Watch a picture, then a rendered video, then tell me which consumes more ssd/cpu/gpu time. If you can’t figure it out, guess the percentage how many games are using static loading screen (for a reason) instead of videos…
Even if you’re right it’s sooooo stupid to using a video for loading screen, as that gonna break and become unpleasant to watch as the resources are allocated to load the game.
And just because this decision the resolution is for the op is to download a mod (sidenote: another slap in the face for the console gamers).

Because, if we all use Riva Tuner and manually set our Max Frame Rate to 30FPS, the game loads in 2 minutes.

With Max Frame Rate set at 30FPS

CPU Average 70% When Loading
GPU 27%

Without Riva Tuner and Max Frame Rate Set (Game never loads)
CPU 100% When Loading
GPU 54%

It’s not just the opening video we are talking about with the loading routine, there is also the Text Overlay which updates the loading time percentage.

Something in that opening routing is tanking older CPU’s on Start-up

For reference, if I open the MP4 File the sim uses, using VLC Player, CPU usage is 0.6% and GPU 4%

You can read all the problems we are having HERE

Started a new thread, as trying to get this highlighted, because its a pain having to use a Riva Tuner workaround.

For the Developers, I have done 2 loading Videos, to demonstrate the problem we are all having, with older CPU’s

Here is the LINK to Video Number 1. This shows you the sim loading WITHOUT using Riva Tuner. During loading, my CPU is running at 100% and my GPU at 54%

Here is the LINK to video 2. I demonstrate that I have launched Riva Tuner, turned on Max Frame Rate to 30 FPS, and you will see the difference, as sim loads in around 3 minutes. My CPU with the Frame Rate Limited is running around the 70% mark, and my GPU at the 27% mark. By limiting the Frame rate of the opening video loading routine, we free up so much more resources. I don’t see why the video loading routing hogs so much CPU and GPU time, there must be a bug somewhere with the opening video and loading routing to cause such high usage. Obviously this bug does not affect people with newer CPU’s, which is why its not widely reported.

Edit

Found the problem with my FS2024 stopping during the loading screens.

With HDR set to On in FS2024, the loading screen stops.
The screen flickers but FS2024 is still running.
With HDR set to Off, FS2024 loads and runs okay.

HDR is set to On in Windows 11 for both cases.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• Yes, I have the same issue of loading being stuck at 68%. I have tried having it installed on both the C: drive and another drive.

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• After waiting 20 minutes at 68%, I hard closed the program. I ran it again, it asked if I wanted to get into safe mode. I said yes and the program was able to load. Exited, and reopened, and got stuck at 68% again.

Edit: I also use an AMD GPU
