OpenXR Toolkit (upscaling, world scale, hand tracking...) - Release thread

Ah okay, I now looked up what the shift-Z-mod is doing in VR (https://i.ibb.co/vJJqfBd/VR-Mode-Drag-Preview.gif). This is what @mbucchia meant by “anchoring it to the world” which is not possible with the openXR toolkit.

Shift+z mod is what you’ll want for FPS, has other details as well which you can hide if not interested.

I want Shift+Z, but unfortunately it doesn’t work anymore under SU12 beta. Thus I look for alternatives, but they are sparse.

Inform the Dev, he’s updated in the past when Sim Updates have broken it.

I already did days ago. No reply yet.

SIMPLE REQUEST!
After all the praise in 3448 posts I’d just love to download this programme.
But I can’t!
No matter what version I try all it does is download OpenXR Toolkit Hand/Controller Configuration.
What oh what am I doing wrong?

And now MSFS can’t see my Pico 4 headset (although that’s probably unrelated).

You don’t have this in your Start Menu or on your desktop?

What does the content of %ProgramFiles%\OpenXR-Toolkit look like?

Yes I have the Companion app which works as advertised and says OpenXR Toolkit is active. But the filew content looks like this

The only applications are the Companion and Mapping Tool, which brings up the Hand/Controller programme.

This is V1 by the way but the latest v1.2.4 looks much the same.

Can you elaborate on your issue? Everything you are describing is normal.

Run the game, and the OpenXR Toolkit will be used then. Have you followed the quick start?

Quickstart | OpenXR Toolkit (mbucchia.github.io)

Sorry if I appear a bit of a numbty, been trying to sort this most of the day! Yes, followed the Quickstart.
Reinstalled the latest version and finally when I selected VR the OpenXR Toolkit popped up! Then I appeared to have inadvertently pressed the wrong keys (how do you use the keyboard when you’re in the headset?) and lost it again - and now can’t get it to start up again. Instead I get a message from the sim “The initialization of VR failed. Please check that OpenXR is installed on your computer and your headset can use it.” Restart the sim didn’t work so I’m going to uninstall it again, re-download and reinstall then try again. However it’ll have to wait now, but thanks for your help so far.

You do have both OpenXR Tools and OpenXR Toolkit set up to run?

Control Tab to enter / exit VR. Then when you’re in VR the default keys to enter OXRTK are Control F2.
Easy to operate when in VR (or blindfolded :slightly_smiling_face:) because they’re grouped to the left hand side of your keyboard.

Edited for lols, at least in my case as I grope around to find them.

Not 100% sure, but does the Pico 4 run on OpenXR at all? Virtual Desktop runs using OpenVR, not sure what Pico’s own streaming does, but that could be the reason why you can’t user OpenXR Toolkit…

Is reflex implementation still being worked on to reduce the artefacts with motion reprojection ?

Sorry, but apart from having OpenXR Toolkit installed - well the installer finished okay - how do I get either of those to run? As far as I can see it just pops up when I enter VR in the sim, no apparent (to me) way of “starting” them.

I’m an old ancient so I don’t find it at all easy, probably why it went wrong as mentioned above!
Have to get 15yr old grandson round to see if he can do it!

I had VR working fine before I tried to use OpenXR Toolkit, that’s why I’m persevering. I downloaded Pico’s own streamer but VR worked without having it activated, going through Virtual Desktop.

No, you don’t need OpenXR Tools for WMR, but it could be useful.

Let me paste here a write up I made on another forum to clarify OpenXR for WMR, OpenXR Tools for WMR and OpenXR Toolkit:

If you don’t have a WMR headset (like HP Reverb) then OpenXR for WMR and OpenXR Tools for WMR are not used at all.

  1. OpenXR for WMR is the base native OpenXR runtime for WMR devices, unless you use SteamVR as your OpenXR runtime, you’ll want to keep that.

  2. OpenXR Tools for WMR serves 2 purposes:

  • Ships the Preview (Beta) of OpenXR for WMR (you enable via on/off toggle in the Tools app). Note: today 2/22 there is no preview, it is all caught up with the stable version shipped with OpenXR for WMR.

  • Configure a few settings for OpenXR for WMR such as the render scale and whether to use motion reprojection. There is a restore defaults button in the Tools app.

It’s a good idea to keep it if you care to try out the Preview in the future (when one is released) and if you don’t use OpenXR Toolkit for settings.

  1. OpenXR Toolkit is an add-on not specific to WMR devices. It provides tons of options to tweak your experience and improve performance. Some of these options cover what OpenXR Tools for WMR can tweak (eg: the resolution) but they also let you set these options per-app instead of system-wide. Some options are also totally novel and not offered by the platform otherwise, like upscaling/sharpening/foveated rendering. There is an option to restore defaults in the Menu tab of the Toolkit’s in-game menu.

Pico runs OpenXR through SteamVR. Virtual Desktop is a SteamVR plugin. Not related to OpenVR.

My website clearly states that OpenXR Toolkit works on Pico, as reported by many users.
