OpenXR Tools for Windows Mixed Reality update in the store (4/14)

This thread is about the OpenXR tools for mixed reality (microsoft store) and not the OpenXR Toolkit so you should be fine.

Also confirm that works ! :+1:

overall brilliant job, thank you so much for investing time to improve our VR experience!

4090/13900, G2, LOD250/OXRTK 140%, TAA100%:

smoothest experience here with 1/3 frame with ā€˜prefer frame rate over latencyā€™, a big improvement for MR! The downside, as others have pointed out, is massive flickering for the first 20-30 seconds and the sim freezes when exiting VR but it always recovers. While turning this setting off avoids these issues, the experience is just so much better with it turned that I happily pay the price!

Taking off from inibuilds KLAX has never been so smooth!

ā€˜Prefer framerate over latencyā€™ increased my fps by 8-10 in all the different weather and also the haze/fog fps eater practically causes no drop in fps now.
This new update is quite impressive!

I do not get a positive impact so have re-projection dis-abled.

It is important on a regular basis to ā€˜clear environment dataā€™ in settings!

Iā€™ve been able to reproduce that one, but only ONCE per session. I can the leave/enter VR no problem but yeah the very first time I do get this weird flickering :frowning:

quick work-around when freezing with ā€˜prefer framerate over latencyā€™ on - disable this just before exiting VR, it will exit normally without freeze and enable it again before the next session

I second that - take off from KJFK in heavy haze/fog had basically zero impact on frames and smoothness. This kind of weather was an FPS killer until now. Amazing!

Same here, using latest version of both the Toolkit (v1.3.1) and Open XR Tools, sim hangs when exiting VR, however if you wait a while it will revert to 2D with no CTD.

Performance was OK limited to 30fps with MR on and using DX11, DLSS quality, render scaling around 4700 or so and scattered clouds, however I too was getting annoying shimmering in scenery outside the prop arc (inside the arc is way better though) PG building features would randomly flicker.

The freeze at exit is likely due to Prefer framerate over latency, I think I have a clue whatā€™s going on so Iā€™ll look into it eventually. For now youā€™ll have to live without it in MSFS

I can confirm, that the flickering and the freeze at exit is completely gone when you switch the "Prefer framerate " off (donā€™t tick it on). Best experience Iā€™ve ever had with the sim.
Iā€™ currently experimenting with the shaking redction which is in conflict with the motion reprojection, but it seems that a value around -10 is a good compromize between shaking and artefacts.

BTW: Itā€™s the first time that I had a CTD twice since a couple of days where the exvent log is talking about too less virtual RAM available. Iā€™ve 32GB physical and either system managed virtual or fixed 32GB didnā€™t make it. Iā€™m using DX12. Donā€™t know whether this is related to something.

The way I have reduced VRAM usage when running dx12 is lowering texture resolution.

You are not using the latest preview OpenXR runtime which this thread is all about.

You are right. You can disregard my post even though it is still a way to reduce VRAM usage. Anyhow, sorry for bothering you, :slightly_smiling_face:

When I turn it on I only get strange wobbeling in the screen and it stays. Tried everything lower resolution change some settings. horrible experience. I run a reverb g2 with 4090z
Did not try hags on and running dx12 maybe I should change that.
anyone tips?

I have a G2 with RTX 4090, DX 12 and HAGS on an have practically no more wobbeling with the new preview and the settings as in post 1. Have you checked that you are using the NVOF10tS version of motion reprojection. (DX 11 is working as well)

did not know there where versions in motion reprojection. Where do you change this?
like to have a look af this.
thks!

Thanks for the update. Alas, not a very good experience for me personally.

  • Prefer frame rate over latency : had to turn that off otherwise flickering and almost impossible to get out of VR
  • Had to disable the NVidia optical flow acceleration because the effect was just too weird.
  • Overal the image seems a bit less stable. Artefacts, especially around the prop disc.
  • Crash to desktop, something I have not had ever. ( I know, hard to believe but true. )

I will be trying to go back to the previous version of this tool.

5900x AMD
RTX 3080
Reverb G2
( no OpenXR toolkit )

[Edit: this is not possible it seems, so an uninstall is my only option]

Please check the first item of this topic. Everything is explained there - as well on how to check which version is being used.

Interesting, as I was just about to post here that since updating to the latest Open XR Tools (and Toolkit) I also have lateral (not quite horizontal) jitter. Not sure if this is what you are getting but I only really noticed it at night with stars, where each star turns into three! I then noticed jitter in the pull-down menus. Interestingly the ground scenery, buildings, etc and the cockpit donā€™t seem to be affected.

After a bit of testing I found that it only happens with motion reprojection and when the new option on NVIDIA flow acceleration function is allowed. When this option is disabled (still using MR) then the jitter stopped.

Never seen this problem before (i9, RTX-3090 ,G2 and latest version of Win 11).
Update, as per request: DX12, HAGS off.
