Opinions on Aircraft buying order?

So my question really is more of a personal decision so I don’t think its a right or a wrong answer for it but here it goes.

I am looking to eventually purchase most of the usual popular Air plane add-ons like the Milviz 310, Kodiak, BAE 146, PMDG 737-7, Maddog MD-80.

I love to do all kinds of flying but am more of a High n Fast Jetliner as opposed to low n slow and being that I don’t have the Premium Edition of the Sim yet, I am still missing some critical big jets.

The PMDG 737 is absolutely my most highly anticipated airplane but I am a little reluctant in going for that right now as I know they are looking to package in the other variations within the next few months.

So I am torn on which to go first with. The 146, (but I do alot of short to mid flights now with Working Title CJ4) the Maddog, the PMDG 737 or should I not get any of them now and just get the Premium Deluxe Version so I get the stock Jetliners like the A330, 787 and CRJ that come with that?

Thank you for taking the time guys n gals!

If you like the stock (or deluxe) jetliners it is unlikely that you will like the pay-ware airliners that you mention. The default planes are toys, the pay-ware versions are high fidelity, but if you aren’t interested in that then you are just paying for a very expensive model. I’d start with the FBW A32NX if you are unsure. That is a high fidelity aircraft that also happens to be free. All of the recent airliners seem to be great; read reviews to match to your taste. I can attest that the PMDG 737-700 is awesome, as is the Fenix A320–though the latter can be a bit heavy on performance. If the default aircraft are more what you are looking for, then you might prefer the Bredok and Captain Sim versions of 737 and 767 (or was it 777, I can’t remember). Otherwise, avoid those products like the plague.

Just a side note, the CRJ does not come with MSFS, it is third party from Aerosoft.

As for the PMDG, Fenix, etc… you cannot compare them to the stock Asobo planes, night and day. If there are any Asobo planes you want that come with premium deluxe then sure, otherwise just get the base and buy the third party planes.

I think it depends on what kind of flight simmer you are? If your more of a casual flyer and just want to enjoy the basics of flying…then upgrade to Premium and try out the extra planes it offers. There are some great mods that help out those, to make them fly more realistically. But even with mods, they are limited to some extent.

If your into flying more realistically, using real world procedures , and enjoy learning the more complex systems and aircraft like the PMDG 737 and Fenix 320, then I would skip the Premium upgrade, if you are looking to upgrade just because of the extra planes it offers. I flew each a few times, but as mentioned, these are more like toys, for the most part.

I would suggest as your first “upgrade” maybe the Aerosoft CRJ, especially if enjoy airliners over small planes. If you already fly the CJ4, then this is like flying the CJ4’s bigger brother. A little more complex but not overwhelming. Once you master the CRJ, then you can move on to either the PMDG or Fenix, or just dive right in on either of those.

A navigraph subscription is something else to look into, especially if you do jump into the Aerosoft, PMDG or Fenix.

I think the number one question we all have is… What is holding you back from purchasing the planes you want?

Is it the cost? If so, gosh, the Premium package is quite expensive of an upgrade compared to what you get, unless, as others have pointed out, you’re just a casual flyer. As others have noted, there’s not a lot of detail in the Premium Deluxe planes, but you might be totally ok with that. Personally, I got the Premium package up front as the cost of the combined package wasn’t that much for my budget, and I really wanted the Cirrus as that’s a plane I almost bought once (out of my budget these days). But the Cirrus and C-172 are the only planes of that package I fly pretty much. But, then again, they are worth it from my point of view. The airliners, not so much.

Otherwise, I’m not sure I understand why you’re waiting on the 737? Is it just you prefer other models, and they are going to charge significantly more for those models and you feel you’ll never fly this model?

I’d create a list of pros and cons of each of the three on your list and rank them using that.

In the end, however, it sounds like you can’t really go wrong with any of your top three choices. Maybe toss your favorite three sided coin?

I’m so sorry fellas as I obviously didn’t give enough information about myself. I am not a beginner and I have been Flight Simming since 1984 (am 50 years old now) with SubLogic FS2 and have owned every iteration of the Sim since and I currently fly with near full on avionics wether it’s ILS Approaches using Navigraph plates and or, punching in my flight data info into the FMC and flying cross country in VR.

I do understand why some of you thought so as, I guess most MSFS Hard Core Flight Simmers would make sure to get the full package of the Sim.

I brought up getting the entire program (yes, as you noticed, I refrain from ever calling it a game ) for the Airplanes but not because I necessarily enjoy the Stock/Vanilla Planes but that it may be prudent in attaining a half dozen more Planes for around the same price as just 1 of these Payware Planes especially, since I ONLY ever fly with Modded Stock Planes. So I figured I would do the same with the Prem Deluxe Planes but, I do understand that I shouldn’t expect these planes to be of the same modded quality of the WT CJ4 but I did notice that they did a real good job with some of the other modded planes like the TBM and the DA-62 per se, but if you guys are telling me that those other planes aren’t up to par then I’ll take that advice! Thanks.

@skypilotyts I’m sorry, you are correct! I meant to say the Cessna Longitude not the CRJ!

@aloper5 I actually meant to add the Aerosoft CRJ but with that being said, it may be a little too close in Class to the CJ4.

@flyingscool5650 I agree! My dilemma is a combination of cost and money. I just can’t afford to dish out a few hundred dollars on planes right now especially, when its my busy season at work so I need to be smart about it.

Plus, I’m also a serious Sim Racer so you can imagine the cost in Hardware and Software as well.

I thought that I read that PMDG is looking to add a variation or two every month until Aug in which the 800 will be available and so I figured they’d have a better deal if I were to wait and get a few variations at the same time.

Like you said perhaps, I need to just find my 3 sided coin, put one hand over 1 eye and go roll for broke!

Thank you all for all of the wonderful bits of advice! You guys have definitely helped me!

I haven’t read PMDG’s site on this plane, but, typically, the additional variants are either supplied later as part of the package, or at a very minimal upgrade price… I’d check out what the cost is.

It’s currently very difficult to mod the premium version planes, as the config files are currently locked down under DRM copy protection. Asobo is looking into making them available for modding by the community, but, typically what’s modded is the flight model, modding the avionics and systems is much more difficult, especially for the airliners. IOW, I don’t believe there are many mods for the Premium aircraft at this time.

PMDG will not be offering bundling or discounts until late 2023.

For now, the 737-700 is discounted to $69.99 until the -600 is released, then it will return to full price $74.99

The -600 will be the cheapest @ ~$50

The -800 and -900 will most likely cost the same as the -700.

I love the leonardo MD80, really well done aircraft. I have the crj, the Fenix A320 The Bae146 and the MD80. am waiting for the pmdg to hit the inSim Marketplace. I worked in aviation in the pre fly by wire era,

As FYI, PMDG has been clear that they are not offering any bundle discounts whatsoever until “later in the product’s life cycle”. Each model variant has it’s own standalone price. I ended up going with the Fenix Airbus, as it is at least a finished product and cheaper, and will revisit the PMDG when they complete the feature set for it.

The PMDG 737 and the Fenix Airbus should be your first purchase (best open both websites at the same time and buy that airliner which´s website loads first as the first purchase.)

The Milviz 310 is a superb airplane and has awesome simulated systems, from engine management engine failures to cabin temperature, lot´s of interesting stuff only known from A2A is simulated in the 310.
One can nothing do wrong when buying the Milviz 310

Hahaha that’s an interesting way of choosing!

You know, if I chose to go GA the 310 is in my top 3 along, with the Flysimware 414 and SwS Kodiak. Blackbox Bn2 Islander looks good too.

@CaptHawkeye50 CaptHawkeye50, @skypilotYTS skypilotYTS Do you happen to know if the price for the 600 coming out in a few weeks for $50 is the price for one who has already purchased the 700 or that, the price is also for 1st buyers?

It’s supposed to be the retail price for anyone regardless of previous purchases.

PMDG stated there will be no bundles or discounts until late 2023.

I see, thanks! So I think I’m going to have to hold off until the 600 comes out as I’d rather have it over the 700 anyway. I was under the impression that was the price if you purchased the original version. I scoured PMDG’s threads and I couldn’t find the answer to this question lol. Thank you.

Well folks, I am happy that my patience came through and I just made my purchase as I was fortunate enough to be able to grab the PMDG 736 for $35.

I am certain that this may as well be one of, if not, the most bang for the buck deals out for Airplanes in the market for MSFS now.

I also picked up the Honda Jet recently, and so I should have my hands full for quite a while going forward

I am so excited to get this lil pup off the ground but before I did so, I just wanted to thank you all for all of your suggestions!
