Opinions on new PC specifically for MSFS 2020 (2024 too but we don't know anything yet)

So here’s my premise…

Under $2000
4k
Ultra
40fps - 60fps
No AI traffic or multiplayer (AI traffic for me is a HUGE fps killer. FSLTL is my savior in this)
No other games and certainly nothing that needs three digit FPS
I’ll get 32gb for RAM
I’ll get a 2tb NVME

Yes, a bit commercial but I’m looking at a PC from everyone’s Youtube friend Linus Whatever-His-Name-Is who now has parlayed his Youtube fame into a PC build company. Fine.

I’m looking at their “better” PC which is pairs the processor and graphic card like this:

Intel i7-12700F 12 (I have no idea what I just typed)
RTX 4070

Now, for conversation purposes. They picked this particular pairing for some reason I’m guessing. A good one I hope. Is this an optimal pairing?

Also, for $200 more, I can get an RTX 4070ti. Practically speaking, what would that get me in terms of MSFS 2020?

Again, my premise is 4k, Ultra (or as close as possible) and 40fps to 60fps. Not needing to set the fps world on fire.

Anyway, if anyone is interested, here’s the link to what I’m looking at. Alternate options and opinions for those in the processor/graphics card know are certainly appreciated.

Annoyingly there is no direct link to any specific PC configuration. You’d have to go to their home page, then Best Sellers, then scroll down and click the “Better” configuration

For CPU definitely go Ryzen 7800x3D. MSFS loves the vcache

Thanks! And your suggestion lines up with other things I’ve seen, not MSFS specific but that it’s a very good chip for gaming overall. Nice to hear that includesbMSFS :+1:

Interesting that the “About Us” page tells you nothing about Build Redux.

Looking at the website, you could certainly be forgiven for wondering whether ‘Contact our Team’ actually means ‘speak to my mom’.

It would appear from various sources including BBB that it would behoove Linus to get his mom involved as it appears that running as is, it’s a business that has lots of problems with everything from quality to customer service (the latter being a real problem apparently).

Anyway, no-go ordering from them. But at least I have (I think, I guess) a basic starting point with the 7800x3D/RTX4070 combo. That seems to be a sweet spot for a rig that can be built for under $2k

I don’t know about the 4070 at 4k to be honest so I would ask around, especially if you ever intend to try out VR. I had a 3070ti which was great at 2K but struggled with 4k and struggled a lot with VR. The 4 series may be different of course.

I do know that it takes a lot more searching around for parts and sifting through countless YT videos, but I would highly recommend building this PC yourself if you can find the time.

Take it one step at a time and it really isn’t difficult at all. The key is in the preparation - make sure you have ALL your user names and passwords saved somewhere, and download the current version of Windows you use to a USB, along with any driver, chipset and BIOS updates for your chosen motherboard.

It’s better value if you do it yourself, and you can choose the precise components you want, and you can already see the point of this re. the X3D cpu as discussed above.
