Origami EGKK (PC)

Today I took the plunge and purchased Origami’s EGKK (Gatwick) for PC. I’ve been wanting to get it since it came out, but abstained as I’d heard bad things about it, and it has an average rating of 3.3 on the marketplace.

However, a vast majority of the negative comments and reviews revolve around CTD on Xbox. PC version seems relatively quiet on that front. I’m not sure if the marketplace ratings are amalgamated from PC and XBox, but I suspect they are. If that is true then I thought perhaps the 3.3 star average had been bought about by negative Xbox reviews. As it was only £14.99, and payday is just around the corner I thought I’d throw caution to the wind.

My first impressions are very good. It does look very nice. To try and get it to CTD I went into drone camera mode, set the drone speed to maximum and rushed about the airport like a March hare. No CTD. Promising so far.

I did, however, notice a couple of minor niggles.

1). Both runways are used for take off and landings. To be honest I know this doesn’t happen I real life (at least as far as I’m aware), but it doesn’t really bother me. Prevents too many planes having to queue for one runway.

2). The biggest issue for me was that many of the aircraft landing on the 08 runways* land short of the runway - in the field just before the runway. When they do touchdown, either in the field or on the runway, they come to an immediate stop. I’m not sure if this is a sim or dlc issue.

  1. Some aircraft cut across the grass when taxiing near the runway.
  • whenever I’ve played at default EGKK, the 27 runways are used. Since installing this dlc they seem to land/depart on the 08 runways.

So, I am happy with the airport. It certainly looks better than the default, but I could do with improvement with the issues I’ve mentioned above.

PS: my apologies to the Mods for posting this in the wrong forum initially. Many thanks for linking me to the correct place. :+1:

agree…it’s quite a good airport. I only just bought it too, but use VATSIM so no ATC /runway use issues

I would like to know how it compares to the freeware version by mkvy which is very nice in my opinion.

I think there are YouTube videos comparing the two. A simple Google search will also highlight comparisons.
