Overall the scenery is nice but

The problem with relying on the community to fix a majority of the world is going to cost an abundance of disk space. How large is everyone’s community folder already? Modders haven’t really even scratched the surface of everything that people want fixed in regards to scenery. The whole “sell” on this sim was that the world would be streamed to us so we wouldn’t need to worry about disk space. Yet here everyone is now talking about relying on outside modders to fix the world. Should we all start buying 8 terabyte drives every 6 to 12 months to keep up with all the mods over the next many years?

Not sure if Orbx fixed the SB pier in their addon, but worth investigating.

Microsoft and Asobo are talking about setting up a scenery gateway, where users fix the scenery themselves, and the fixes become part of the stock scenery. I hope this doesn’t just mean airport layout edits, but also includes custom 3D models. The solution to the above problem is to have the user modified scenery stream like the rest of the stock scenery, rather than it being in stand alone files that are downloaded locally.

At this point they need to just lock these idiotic rant threads.

The game has been released. There is no going back. Having been alive long enough to have played FS 2000, FS2004, FSX, XP9, XP10, and XP11 I can assure you that this game is in a better release state and is a far better product at release.

At this point people are just trying to complain…put in a ticket! You have absolutely no idea what resources ASOBO and MS have at this point you are simply speculating.

I also love the ARM chair Developers and Arm chair pilots who magically know how things should work.

We are all very aware of the current state of the game. They have already said that the money invested this is an ambitious project with a lot of never before done things. Given a long development cycle.

Personally I think Asobos experience with other games has made this a masterpiece that they can offer this level of detail on today’s gaming equipment.

At this point we need a rant and raves thread so we can just give you all a toxic place on the forums so you can be toxic with other pessimistic, ungrateful humans. That’s the only time you will all truly be happy and validated

That’s probably what these forums are for: A dumping ground for complaints that Microsoft controls and effectively hides. Tens of thousands of negative posts now don’t spill out onto the rest of the public internet, but are tucked away on this forum which requires a login in order to access.

Wow didn’t think this would get such a hostile reaction. Just pointing out some scenery anomalies.

Thanks for pointing that out. I was going to do so on a different thread. That is exactly why this is login-required, not crawl-able.

The good/bad news depending on how you look at it is that there is plenty of vitriol on reddit, steam forums, and other third-party places.

Offline scenery updates from 3rd party addons and patches is fundamentally a poor solution to these kind of issues.

It needs to be fixed in the stock product.

If you’re one of those people that has this kind of personal time and motivation, please go work with the studio to improve their assets. Don’t cobble together hacks to overwrite the default assets or make people manually hunt down every square km they want to look better.

Which is why a gateway would be such a good idea, the best of both worlds.

This product may go the same way!

The visual flaws that constantly crop up and break the experience only represent the tip of the iceberg.

More importantly it plays like a sim that’s missing a lot of internals. If you focus in on the mechanical interaction it provides the same ugly limitations immediately show themselves.

They could have easily cleared up the weather debate by providing the option to show the live weather information in developer mode, even visualize the air currents so you can prove to yourself what you are receiving.

But they don’t show it. Probably because they know it’s still 90% missing.

First of all I must say how impressed I am with what MS has achieved with FS2020. It is truly fantastic when you consider how far flight sims have come in a relatively short span. I have seen errors and many omissions, but it is nevertheless astonishing.
I believe that to have accurate representation of, say a city or airport, the best results can only be gained by designers with local knowledge. For example, i have just downloaded a free version of Edinburgh City that corrects many of the missing landmarks in the original product. An excellent product that adds to the flying experience.
I bought from Orbyx Edinburgh airport for X-Plane 11 and am looking forward to repeating this purchase for FS 2020. I also had Aberdeen, Glasgow, Dundee etc. for X-Plane, all free and excellent. This is all local to my flying experience (many years as an instructor) in Scotland. I agree that our Community folder is going to be huge, but I’m quite prepared to buy a 4TB hard drive purely for add on scenery. Perhaps the way to deal with the add on scenery is to have folders dedicated to the area you choose to fly in. That way you can swap out the community files and replace them with the area you are flying in.
Perhaps MS will never fix all the anomalies, but it is still a tremendous step forward in realism.

Nice post. I’ve articulated the lack of communication from the developer ad nauseum. I submit to you that if they even attempted to explain the intended functionality in detail, it would silence a lot of the discussion on the forum, and perhaps enable us to actually know whether or not it was functioning.

And weather is just one of many items that we on the customer side are in the dark about how it is even supposed to work. Texture streaming is another one. It reminds me of the thread from the other week about the graphics suddenly looking better in the game without any patch or notification from Asobo that they were changing something. Everyone is hyper-analyzing everything without having a clue of what we’re actually looking at. The lack of communication, to say nothing of in-game test functionality, is definitely frustrating.
