I haven’t messed with this a ton yet as I’m still just trying to tweak my settings to run well with a 3080 and G2…
Has anyone figured out how to use OVR Toolkit and fpsVR in MSFS 2020 in VR? With SteamVR not being used to launch the sim I’m not able to use the hand controllers to bring up these tools.
I know controllers are not supported in this release but I was hoping they could at least be overlaid to use these tools. I’m most interested in seeing charts in MSFS2020 using OVR Toolkit.
I expect the short answer is “no”, but checking anyway.
Yes, you stay in VR, Plane flys, you can look on your OVR Window in the Cockpit.
If you want to manipulate something in the window (eg next page in pdf reader) then you use Alt -Tab.
What happens is, you stay in the cockpit but your mouse switches to the OVR-window and you can click there. If you want to manipulate something in the cockpit again, then press Alt-Tab again…
I think it makes sense not to have any other programs open than Steam, MSFS and pdf-Viewer or whatever window you want to bring in your cockpit view.
Thanks for the information man! This is a bit disappointing since essentially you have to switch between programs instead of just move the cursor into the window and manipulate it as it should be…I guess this is because MSFS2020 VR is not run through steamVR? Hope Asobo can introduce native window overlay or at least a steamvr mode, otherwise using a scratchpad to write down IFR clearance in VR will not be a smooth experience…
Ja, correct. It seems not to be integrated, more like a random result.
But to simply see the eg VFR-Charts during flight is possible at least.
Making notes definately is something which makes sense.
@instigatorXB I been having such a hard time with this OVR toolkit and I am just lost lol… I am currently using Open XR to use VR in MSFS, using HP reverb G2 and had to follow a video to run it. It is so important for me to have ForeFlight sectional charts while flying so I went ahead and got the OVR Toolkit, BUT I can’t pull any windows (iPad mirroring ForeFlight) into MSFS, I just realized I am not suing steam Vr anymore and not sure how I disabled it or how to enable it back! I don’t see my headset controllers when launching MSFS in VR in order to use the OVR Toolkit. Please please please explain to me step my step how to do this, it has been few days I am trying to figure this out with no luck. Thanks in advance .
Go into SteamVR settings, go to developer tab, on the bottom where it says Current OpenXR Runtime: Windows Mixed Reality, click the button underneath to change it to SteamVR Runtime.
If you have degraded performance though, you can always switch it back. Also be sure to now use your SteamVR settings to tweak your render resolution rate.
Start OVR Toolkit
-here you can set up, which window you want to see in VR (I decided to see my second monitor, so
everthing which is there will be shown later in VR-Window
-In the settings of OVR you can connect the window to one of the controllers. To do so open the OVR
menue by turning the controller as if you want to read your wrist watch
-you have to allow, that the controller can manipulate the content of the window (important)
Start MSFS 2020 (I have the Microsoft Store Version)
Switch to VR in MSFS 2020 (default is STR + TAB)
You do not see the controllers in VR in MSFS 2020, but they are effective.
If not allready visible, connect the window you want to see in MSFS to your right controller
-Open the window, which you configured in OVR settings. If its not yet opened,
take your left controller and turn as if you want to read your wrist watch.
-If you move the left controller to the window, which is ideally connected to the right controller,
you see a small yellow spot: Thats the mouse!
Trick: With Alt Tab you switch from your Window to MSFS and can controll both with your mouse
In my case that´s not neccessary, because when the one controller comes close to the other
the small yellow spot showes up.
I use the HTC Vive + Steam-OVR + MSFS 2020 from the Microsoft Store
I wanted to add screenshots with the neede steps, but unfortunately the screenshots just show the simulator but not the OVR windows. Hm any ideas?
@mucmuc666, @Nexter11 Thank you so very much for your comments, I was finally able to get it to work, unfortunately my FPS was terrible even on low setting ha e RTX 2080Ti…I may have to wait for something to come around using the WMR open Xr for it to be playable. Again I can’t thank you enough for walking me through this with detailed instructions . I owe you
