hello,
I have a question about the PA28 autopilot in msfs24. is it possible to use the autopilot only in altitude hold mode so that you can change directions manually?
thanks,

Hi @VastTripod6087
I don’t believe it will in the sim. If you don’t select either heading or nav mode, it will default to “roll” mode, and I’ve never found a way out of that to a neutral state. You can obviously use heading mode to “steer” but I don’t think there’s any way to use Alt hold, and still have yoke control.
Regards
P.S. To be clear, there some aircraft with CWS (control wheel steering) or TWS (touch control steering) modes that allow you to use the yoke with the AP on. Not sure if there’s any of them in the sim.
Hallo VastTripod6087, I understand your wish. Autopilots usually cannot do that. But you can trim the aircraft so that it maintains a stable altitude and then steer it manually. Of course, sooner or later the aircraft will start to descend (when turning) or climb (when consuming fuel), but this makes flying more fun. Otherwise, it is possible to fly the autopilot in altitude hold mode and heading mode. ![]()
hello Habu2u2 and Lutzlange,
thanks very much for answering. I will do it mostly with the trim and sometimes altitude hold
