Welcome to the 143rd flight event across the GUNNER DOWNUNDER series. This week we will be back flying into the treachourous jungle mountainside dirt airstrips of Papua New Guinea, and the event is again guaranteed to give you more of the unique and challenging flight experience that you have come to expect from Gunpilot’s flight events.
This week has us once again flying deep into the PNG jungle, having to put our King Air aircraft down onto extremely dangerous mountainside dirt airstrips. Regular pilots on Gunpilot’s flights will be well versed in the difficulty that these small airstrips present in landing on them, and getting out again without clipping the tree tops that nearly always surround these little strips.
New pilots to these flights are in for a real eye-opener so be warned
This flight will be a BACK2BLACK event. In this BACK2BLACK flight event, we will be flying in the BEECHCRAFT KING AIR .This twin engined low wing turbo prop aircraft is a much larger, faster, and more difficult aircraft to pilot…and that degree of difficulty is ratcheted up a further notch by having to put this aircaft into these treachorous PNG strips!!!
Be on your game concentration wise the whole flight or you will end up like this aircraft below…
The objective of these Back2Black flights will be to see who can fly the whole event plan without damaging or stressing their planes to where their screen goes Black (Failure & Damage options will be enabled in the Assistance Options in the sim) and they have to restart where they crashed, either by landing heavily, hitting trees on final approach, stalling, or a myriad of other ways that you can ruin your day in the cockpit. If no pilot makes it all the way from departure to destination without going back 2 black then it will be the pilot who has had the least instances of black screens that is declared the event winner.
Along the way there will be a few locations where you can redeeem yourself if you have clocked up any Black Screens, allowing you to reduce your tally if you successfully complete one of these redemption challenges.
The weather will be marginal, with about an 18 knot wind when airborne, and there will be two levels of cloud (one being very low but patchy) and some drizzle will be encountered along the way.
*Again, a packaged up WEATHER file has been developed and included along with the flight plan, negating any need for anyone to dial in weather settings, as well as ensuring that all pilots are experiencing exactly the same weather conditions. The Weather Preset file is located in #gunpilots-events (click GUNPILOT’s Server to be taken there). Extract file into your Community Folder prior to launching your sim for the flight.
Remember, you will be dropping onto the departure runway in a King Air!
