Passive aircraft configurations seem to utilize generic dimensions and gate types [2024]

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

All passive aircraft families seem currently to have the same dimensions and parking types set even across different aircraft families.
This means that a Boeing 747 may have the same logical dimensions as a Boeing 767 which leads aircraft to overlap at gates and other parking positions. This has however to be checked in the flight model which currently is encrypted.
On top all passive aircraft seem to have the same atc_parking_types (GATE,RAMP,CARGO) set so all aircraft can utilize all civic parking spots, even fighter jets.

I think both things were used to ensure not to spend too much time on creating all these aircraft and to make even wrongly configured airports to look “alive”, however I’d like to ask to configure the passive aircraft correctly to avoid overlapping and completely wrongly placed aircraft. The correct atc parking types do exits since back in FS2004 (“RAMP”, “CARGO”, “MIL_CARGO”, “MIL_COMBAT”, “GATE”, “DOCK”)

I may also refer to my wishlist item about a separate handling of helicopter live/ai traffic here, so helicopers at some point may also utilize helipads and specific parking spots: (Live) traffic ai flight model for helicopters [2024]

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

1.Set “Traffic Airport Quality” to at least ‘high’ (this places static passive aircraft on suitable spots based on type and dimensions)
2. Watch where aircraft are spawned and compare logically

  • if cargo aircraft spawn at gates with jetways their configuration is wrong (atc_parking_types must be “CARGO” in this case. “RAMP” would also be allowable as they may park at some maintenance area)
  • if military aircraft spawn on a civil airfield without military parking their configuration is also wrong (should be “MIL_CARGO” or “MIL_COMBAT”)
  • If small general aviation aircraft spawn at gates their configuration is also wrong (must be “RAMP” in their case as they don’t ever utilize jetways or stairs)
  • Airliners will be allowed at ‘RAMP’ type parking spots applicable to their size, if they spawn at medium to small size parking spots their dimensions are off so they fit into a too small spot
  • If multiple aircraft overlap at least one of them might have too small dimensions. MSFS since 2004 does not allow SimObjects to overlap based on dimensions as configured in the flight model (so unlikely that was changed intentionally)
